How about a special treat when you need to leave him, something that would keep him quiet fir a while - like a pigs ear or bull pizzle?:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0

Oh rubbish, I typed an updated and lost it before I posted, I had opened a new window to google bull pizzles!!
The night went better than expected, I don't think i heard a peep, I woke up at one point thinking I heard the crate rattling but I must have dreamt it because when I went to check he was quite chilled out in his bed.
This morning he was sitting up waiting for me, I think he was quite keen to go out for an empty, and I fetched a rug so he could sit with me out of his crate while I drank a coffee, but he got back inside.
He seems a bit perkier and he' s not as stiff in his injured leg as I was expecting.
Fingers crossed the rest of his recovery goes so well!
MatyMoo I was thinking about trying a fairly easy kong, he always used to get those when I went out the house unil the last year or so, nothing too challenging because I don't want him throwing it around too much!0 -
oh no, just got back from first trip out, and he was physically shaking. knowing him, I suspect from fear. I thought it was going too well.0

You could try a herbal remedy for anxiety such as Dorwest Herbs Scullcap and Valerian, or Valerian compound. With the DAP diffuser if that also helps.

Apparently the people at Dorwest are very knowledgeable if you phone them up, so it might be worth getting in contact and explaining the issue.
You could also try a Thundershirt, available at Amazon and with a money back guarantee if it doesn't work

Good luck!0 -
thanks for the links Polly.
I haven't bought anything yet, as fingers crossed he seems to have settled into the crate quite well now, with the help of some kongs with fish paste smeared inside (rocky LOVES fish).
he's like a coiled spring now, i think he's missing our walks as much as me! He was trying to round me to the bottom of the stairs earlier and giving me his best begging- wag, our sitting room is upstairs and he usually spends time dozing on the settee.
that said, he has no more pain relief, so he might not be so lively tomorrow if it's sore again.0 -
How is he doing now?

alright, i think!
If I'm around and leave the door open, he has a wander around and then goes back into it, so I don't think he's too stressed about the whole thing. There's only been one night where I've been woken at 4am by him whining, I let him out for a wee which he obviously needed, but he carried on whining when I put him back in his crate and went back to bed- I got eventually at 4.30 and wasn't impressed!
I haven't seen him quivering when I've returned to the house, and he doesn't have that stressed smell I remember from when his seperation anxiety was bad when he was younger.
I have to admit, I am enjoying not having dog hair all over the settees and upstairs!
His leg seems better too, he looks a bit stiff but he's putting weight on it and not particularly gingerly like he was. Fingers crossed he's back to normal before our holiday, or me and the dog will be staying at home!
Thanks for asking

Aw, I'm glad he seems a bit better.lostinrates wrote: »I have never used a crate before this pup. I have to say I felt exactly the same as you...but.....it's been amazing. He genuinely does choose his crate.
I had the same experience, my puppy liked to jump in her crate to play with her toys.:)0
