Good gift card deal at argos, major retailers included in deal eg boots & next

  • I was only interested in using the vouchers to pay off my Next account.
What I don't get is what is in this deal for Argos? Why are they selling discounted vouchers that can be used with their competitors?

I imagine that with the recent businesses going into adminstration, people are reluctant to buy giftcards right now. Judging by the offer I would say they had a large abundance of gift cards at their stores and wanted to shift current stock levels, even at less profit (possible loss depending the discount they receive on them) and thought this might be a good way to shift a few.

When the deal went viral, I assume they would have to order more stock to meet demand, if they were making a loss, you can see why the would be reluctant to order more and decided to limit the offer.

Shame, I would have liked some Boots vouchers and a couple more next vouchers. The others are no good for me, gift cards can't be used alongside other discounts/offers in most of those restaurants, so no real saving, and with the current cineworld offer with disoranno, would be better off getting that offer instead. Well done all who got the vouchers they wanted :)

I doubt that - I imagine the value of the gift cards held in stock is negligible before they're loaded.

I'm guessing this was an exercise to improve Argos's cashflow. The cash rolls into Argos coffers now, but they won't be paying the suppliers for perhaps some weeks.

    Makes sense...

I do wish people wouldn't gripe about other people being greedy...it's the luck of the draw. Since I joined MSE there have been many offers/deals/glitches I would have loved but thru some means or another I've missed. I've never felt the need to !!!!! about other people being fortunate...the opposite in fact. I was lucky this time around, which I'm very grateful for. Next time I probably won't be.

When I first read about it on Monday morning my gut feeling was that this offer would be quickly withdrawn.

It's just unheard of for one retailer to heavily discount giftcards for another. Argos giving us all 25% off Next, TK Maxx, Debenhams, Boots was bizarre and I jumped on the offer immediately to make the most of it.

Take Next for instance - they don't even do what the likes of Debenhams, M&S, H&M, BHS etc. do all the time (giving random across the board discounts - 10% off fragrances, 20% off menswear etc. etc.).

Next never give ANY DISCOUNTS - EVER - only their sale. So for the first time ever I had the chance to get 25% off EVERYTHING in Next, including sale items and including online. That was INSANE!!!

And with potential loopholes emerging about the ability to use the 25%-off giftcards to then buy PayPal and VISA card vouchers elsewhere, something was wrong with this deal!

On the other forum someone has mentioned that a Debenhams manager told them this morning that the Argos offer was withdrawn after a request from Debenhams btw. This was inevitable.

£400 each at PE and Nando's? You must eat there a LOT  :rotfl:

No, just once a week on a Sunday at one or the other.

you need a new calculator. :rotfl:

    52 weeks in a year @ £15 a visit = £780

Valid for 18 months so not enough really.
    .
  • Sorry I missed this offer.
Are they within their rights to remove this offer, as leaflet stated valid until 14/02/2013??:(

just noticed the small print that also states maximum 2 gift cards per customer ... so not only have they pulled the best cards they are now also limiting the number you can purchase!
    loves a good glitch :j
