VODAFONE BT WIFI Hotspots

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has been able to connect tp the BT Wifi hotspots. I have recently transferred to Vodafone on a new contract with the promise of 2GB free wifi from hotspots but have never been able to connect to one. I have noticed a number of people on the internet have been unable to connect and i was wondering if anybody on MSE has had any luck. Second this to me is a mis sold product and ideally i would like to to get out of the contract or at least be compensated. Would anybody know if i would have a case and if so how would i pursue this?

Thanks

Have you spoken to Vodafone about it? What was their response? Have you registered for a Vodafone online account as it requires?

You can't expect to be let out of your contractual responsibilities if you haven't even given the provider chance to sort the issue.

ETA: Does this thread help at all? Although it's for Orange/T-Mobile, I imagine the principle is the same for Vodafone users.

Are you both trying to connect to an openzone portal and not a renamed FON portal?
  • DUTR you mention about connecting to FON portal.....firstly that is never explained by vodafone customer support (which are the worst in history!!!!). Initially i read on other sites that it should be the FON portal, so i tried this and it still didn't work. Called vodafone again and now they say that you do not connect to that but when you see the wireless option on your phone connect to Auto-Wifi which again i tried and it still did not work.

I have spoken to vodafone since september about this and sent a number of emails to them and have got no further.

Can i no claim now that it was mis-sold???

The FON now shows as openzone, openzone are in high people areas like shopping centres,if you are trying from home, then although it may show openzone, it is probably FON which you won't have access to unless you are a BT internet customer.
The wifi access is an addition to your tariff, so whilst it may have been the deal breaker for you, the deal you agreed to is for talk text and data via gprs.

I don't know if these links will help but it all very confusing

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Openzone

    http://www.btwifi.com/help/common-questions/index.jsp

There was BT Openzone a subscription /PAYG service at airports etc and BT Fon which was a free opt in service for BT home broadband users, and a Fon service for Fon subscribers, which could use BT Fon hot spots.

As I understand there is now only one combined service BT WiFi which has three seperate log in details depending if you are an original Openzone, BT-Fon or just a plain Fon user

I'm a currently a Orange WiFi user, which had access to the old commercial BT Openzone hot spots and also a Fon subscriber which gave me access to all BT Fon home /domestic hot spots. Both these apps work fine and would log me into a BT hotspot automatically whichever was avaliable.

However as a BT landline user I now have free access to BT Wifi through BTs Smart Tak app. Apparently I should no longer require any other app in order to use any BT WiFi service.

I'm going to experiment and exit/ remove the Orange wifi and Fon apps leaving BT SmartTalk so as to confirm that the new (all singing and dancing) combined BT Wifi hotspots continues to work OK.

Shakes head and walks away :rotfl:
  • I happen to work in the city of london and have stood exactly at the spot where the hot spot is available and have a strong signal. Yet this still does not connect!

I appreciate that my contract was sold more towards the data and text but the other selling point they promoted was the hot spots as i only had a 500mb data tarriff and they said that this would benefit me.........

Ifi haven't had or able to use the service aren't i entitled to anything in recompense????

This is not an isolated issue either!! As mentioned before i am not the only perosn experiencing this problem

No you are not the only person that has experienced this symptom, I do recall those on Orange having similar too, is there an app to use for the launcher?
Which tariff are you on? If the advertised tariff suggests wifi access then yes you may have a case for complaint.

Not sure I can agree with you this time, DUTR.

If you look at these sim-only plans, you will see that 750 minutes of UK wi-fi is an integral part of the plan, not a bonus.
    http://www.vodafone.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/sim-only-plans/index.htm

Under these circumstances, if, after doing everything correctly, OP can't access the promised wi-fi, then Vodafone are in default of their contract, just as if they had failed to provide texts or voice.
  • I am now on the Vodafone RED plan but was on a similiar plan which gave me less data but the same wifi access.

I have sent an email to vodafone today.....if i get no further could somebody please advise who i should contact about this or do i just threaten them with serious words :-)
