beware:windows maintenace scam call

Options
i have been receiving calls from this number for past few days
020111095

the gentleman who answers knows our family name and asks about our computers and which ones are running windows. he claims he is from Windows/Microsoft and also claims we purchased a "windows maintenance contract" - which did not!

as soon as i ask his name & details he hangs up.

just letting others know as this is a sure scam call.

apologies if in wrong forum.

    So play the game.

How long can you keep him on the line for?

If you want to play, try to convince them that your IP address is : - 194.61.183.121.
They will try everything trying to log onto your computer and fail!

Oh and what is that IP address? Try it it is perfectly safe http://194.61.183.121

Some idiot has sold them your details for cash probably. I've had the same call. There is no way that they could know your IP Address and telephone number and name, yet claim to know that your "Vindows is infected".

more worrying is how they know our name as well as number.

could fool them next time and say i am a mac user..no windows in the house except on the external walls!

    Be careful!

I strung one of them along last year and after five minutes I told him to eff off as he was a scamming *******. He plagued me with abusive calls threatening my wife and family for about a month afterwards. I saved the numbers he called from and a recording of his abuse and eventually I complained to Strathclyde Police. They told me that they could do absolutely nothing about it.

Eventually the calls stopped but it was a bit unsettling, especially when Britain's finest cannot protect us from this sort of stuff.
