Good Morning
We had snow overnight and some flurries this morning. DH has gone to work as he has another meeting in Cheshire. I shouldn't complain as meetings mean work and things were very quiet before Christmas.
Does anyone read the "A Girl Called Jack" blog-she's written a very moving piece about shop closures and job losses today.
I walked or rather slithered down to town this morning.I had to go to M&S to get a gift voucher and bought a reduced to clear Christmas pudding as well. I'm sure the novelty of having an M&S Simply Food justy down the road will wear off eventually.
On the way back I called into the butcher for some diced lamb, a small piece of brisket and some kidneys . We still have meat in the freezer but I like to keep stocked up and in this weather I just take a rucksack out so my hands are free so can't carry as much .We'll have the kidneys tonight with some yellowed stickered mushrooms. I'll make soup for the freezer with the rest of the mushrooms.
Keep warm everyone-it's snowing again0 -
Big hugs to candygirl, your friends & family.
Yes, I've been AWOL again but thanks to my school being closed today (roads pretty horrendous, school car park resembles the Dancing on Ice studio, pavements similar) then I'm able to catch up. I've spent most of the morning doing school work, so I haven't been having fun - but I have had a couple more cups of tea than normal!
Mr VickyA is working from home today too. He's lucky that he's able to do that as he can remotely sort people's servers and stuff. (or whatever he does!)
We spent a very chilly afternoon yesterday standing on the terrace at Leicester Tigers. It snowed throughout the match and the "boys" did very well.
I keep meaning to sort out our meal plans, so maybe I'll get to do that today at some point. I have found various recipes in a variety of magazines, which need ripping out and/or scanning. Any ideas?! I need to make it achievable and I've found some relatively simple, healthy recipes but of course there's always one or two specialist ingredients which our local Tesco doesn't stock. (and I'm not going to make a special journey to Waitrose in the town 10 miles away in this weather!!!)
Anyway, have a good day all.

Afternoon all
A good 6 inches of snow here , had to walk to work this morning took me about an hour, then the majority of my appointments cancelled so I have left early and walked home
Still snowing hope it stops as I don't fancy walking again tomorrow
candygirl sorry to hear of your mums friend x
Snow day for dd2 she is thrilled , she is currently parked in front of the tele watching Harry potter
Have a good day everyone and keep warm xx0 -
snow day for me and ds. dd2 has gone to school - her choice- i told her not to go. she has a 50 mile round trip. school is open and her bus is running but she has no coat - again her choice and no wellies. grrr so cross with her. shes nearly 16 i cant force her to wear a coat. she has two fleeces on and hand warmers. thats it. lets hope the bus doesnt break down.
Same here Wuvvies. My DD set off to college (50 mile round trip too) in a flimsy skirt and leggings with a gillet:eek::eek::eek: It caused a row but did no good. Anyway she got to the bus and realised she had left her phone at home and decided that she could not go to college without it. So she tramped home only to find college was closed. So fate took a hand and she is home safe and warm - the village roads are treacherous. My other sons are off school too as the site is very dangerous and on a hill:eek::eek::eek:
We have made cakes today as we are going over to Northampton to take my Dad for a hospital appointment. My Mum is not so good but she loves my cake so I used up all my spoons to make them. Hope they cheer her up as she can be pretty miserable :rotfl:
Kid's Dad got to work in Reading but needs to get back by 2pm so fingers crossed.
Candy - sorry about your mum's friend. I was just going to post that I have known people to hang on for many reasons but she is now at peace :A
Hugs and keep warm xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Hi all
Well, the Concrete Cows have had another coating of nasty white stuff overnight;:( I do worry about Mr LW driving to work in these conditions, but he's a very good driver, so I just have to hope there aren't too many eejits on the road when he's driving.
DG Skye is a real sweetie; I just want to scoop her up and cuddle her!:D
Judi I love hats!:) I have a lovely warm black one I got from an offer in the newspaper, and I've jazzzed it up with a black and silver feather embellishment I got at a craft fair. I also have a brown cord flat cap, and a waxed wide-brimmed hat which is good for dog-walking in the wet. That's quite apart from the two sunhats (one “natural” straw colour, one green) that I use in summer.:o I'll bet you don't look as bad as you think with your new hat on.:o
CG I have “The Wolf Talk” by Shaun Ellis. I've not had chance to read it all through, though. I do wish I had more time for reading.
I have no words of wisdom re your mum's friend; all I can offer is my best wishes for when she finally makes her journey. Ah, I've just seen your subsequent post.:( Sleep, well, Carol. Gentle (((HUGS))) for those she leaves behind.
Mr LW has a late shift tonight, so dins is the 2nd half of yesterday's lasagne. Other than that, I shall see how much of the kitchen I can get cleaned; really, from that point of view, the snow makes little difference to me, I'm housebound in any case when Mr LW isn't here to help me.:(If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Candy hugs for you and your mum xxxx I can't believe in this day and age we allow patients to go this way
Am cream crackered! Up and down a hill sledging and just cleared the drive. Need a lie down
Just had left over cottage pie for lunch yum yumI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
