Oh no. Sorry to hear this about the co-op. I hope barclays can be of help. So much has changed and is changing, making the br life even harder.2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)

Right,
I went into my local Co-op bank and give them nuts for telling me it's ok to open a basic account if I'm thinking about BR. They deny all knowledge of ever advising me of that - how convenient!
Stuck between a rock and oblivion, I brazenly strolled into Barclays across the road, you know the one's I owe £50,000,000 to in my BR;)
And shouted out............. 'Oi' gimme a basic account because I'm BR.
Er, Umm, Ok Mr Grumpy Shunter. You can have one. Here you go, sign here, you'll get your debit card and bits and pieces through in a few days! !!!!!! is that all about?Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy crap we dont need!:think:0 -

were you a co-op customer before you went bankrupt or did you open it after you went to court? if it isnt the latter it will effect an awful lot of people myself included.
Smoyu, I opened a basic account after seeking advice. I went into my local Coop bank here in Plymouth and told them up-front of my position and why I need a basic account.
No problem. I was in there about 20 minutes answering the usual 'open an account' questions, and was told there and then - that's it Mr Grumpy Shunter, all set-up. You'll have you card etc through in a few days.
Then today, via letter, BANG, you account is being closed. :mad:Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy crap we dont need!:think:0 -
Well done barclays. Shame on you co-op!2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)

Is it possible someone at the coop is acting outside policy? I would appeal and refer them to their press release statement
"Whilst the bank will no longer be opening new accounts for un-discharged bankrupts, it remains fully committed to working with existing customers who find themselves in financial difficulty."
Closing your account is hardly being “fully committed” to working with you (an existing customer).
Also point out that there is nothing in their terms and conditions (section 19) which states they can close your account because of bankruptcy.
(While they can close the account at any time the T&C say they should give you 2 months notice not 30 days.)
I suspect this is a mistake and it would be helpful if you could challenge it.0 -

Thanks, Mr.Mouse.;)
Because Barclays have given me a basic account, I'm not going to challenge Coop's decision, I really haven't got much fight left in me:(. I'm just glad a disaster was averted and I can now pay my bills.Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy crap we dont need!:think:0 -
