If your wrists cramp when kneading, why not try something like these no knead breads?

That bread looks delicious. I think I might have to give that one a go too :D

I couldn't get the other two links to work.
  • me neither Justamum.
I wish I could remember the recipe for a bread I made years ago when we had all the strikes/power cuts.
I'm sure it was a no yeast/knead recipe but it was lovely.

  • Grateful thanks for all these fantastic ideas, I have saved the links and will try one when I get time midweek - will keep you posted!
  • If you fancy having a go at making your own bread, please do give Doves Farm Spelt Flour a try. I use it in my Bread Maker, which I haven't had much success with!, however, this particular flour gives me a lovely light loaf time and time again and boosts my poor bread making confidence no end!

If you've got time to shop around or plenty of freezer space: we like Burgen bread and it's £1 a loaf in Iceland but £1.50 in Sainsbury's. It's not an offer it's been that price for months. Also try to keep bread eating to a minimum for calorie reasons.

Is that what you try to do, or your telling me to stop eating bread 'cause I'm over weight?

For those who struggle with making bread, try the Dan Lepard way, it's virtually no-knead, but does take some time so you need to be at home quite at bit in the initial stages, either that or make it in the evening and let it rise overnight.

I have made bread successfully for nearly 30 years, but now make nearly all my bread this way, both sourdough and yeasted breads, because it's just so easy and the dough takes on a beautifully silky smooth texture. You just knead it several times, it for approx 10 seconds each time, but the trick is to leave it in between.

Will post a link or recipe later, have to dash now.

    Is this the one? http://www.oundlefoodfestival.co.uk/index.php/recipes/64-danlepards-easy-white-bread

I assume from your username that you are a Les Mis fan? Have you seen the film? My favourite musical - and with a local girl in it too :D
  • I'm back to making my homemade bread to, for the exact reason OP has pointed out. I can bake a loaf for about 30p so there's no way I'd pay £1.50 now. As for meat, I've gone back to buying from my local butcher for better quality meat, but just use less. A bit of the old GYO, and batch cooking helps things along. We also have to fairly good salaries coming into the house and have no debt but its still difficult.
