schools opening when it has snowed!

I will go better than you request and give you several reasons. Then I wlill explain to you why your view of teachers is unjustified.
As with people in all professions teachers have family commitments to meet. Some have children of their own to get to their own schools.
as already discussed....some, not all. the ones who can come in can do it. Its what happens with other proffesions who (believe it or not) have children too.If these are shut they need to arrange for alternative childcare. Some teachers will look into this in advance when heavy snow is predicted. Some may just not be able to access babysitters due to being in very rural locations or having no friends and family to hand that can step in.
its that word again.....some.
Some people at my work have the same problem. Those that dont have the problem, clear the walkways. This holds true if you are on low wages or even the site manager, that is the culture. The can do culture not the lame !!!! "we want a day off" culture.the best will in the world travelling in adverse weather conditions to your place of work can take extra time. You may head off earlier in the hope to arrive with some spare time but traffic conditions can hold you up. Oddly enough this effects people who practice in every proffession.
as already discussed, it is amazing how these other professions with the same problems manage to stay open.I am a teacher of year 3 children. I work in a huge junior school which has not closed due to snow for at least the past 12 years under our current head teacher.
so it is possible, which is exactly what I have argued. You come across as having such an obvious hatred of teachers? Can you give me one real valid reason why?
no problem, I dont have a hatred, hate is a very strong work.
I dislike hypocrisy and I find it in abundance with teachers. Although this is a general comment and can not be applied to all teachers, I find such traits to be "over-represented" in the teacher population.0 -

nope, I dont fail to understand. If this is the case then I have no issue with it. All I have taken exception to is if a school has to shut because its premises was not cleared. That is poor preparation and management of what is a simple task.0 -

Both my kids schools are open.
Main roads are clear around here, so no reason for them not to be unless we have lots tonight.0 -

Taps fingers on desk waiting for johnnyl to give valid reasons why he hates teachers so much. Either he cant come up with any or he is writing the mother of all posts writing hundreds of them.
Anyhow my priority right now is to go to bed, so as I can get up early tomorrow and go and do my job. The care of the kids in my class is more important to me than his views.
That should keep him happy. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -

Then why are you being a hypocrite? I don't judge your work, or what you do, or how you run your working life, but you feel it perfectly reasonable to judge mine.
Not knowing what you do, I can't judge yours, but having also worked in the private sector, I know I used to be part of the queue out of the car park at 5.01pm. And had snow days...quite frequently in fact. The managers worked from home and us grunts had the work waiting for us when we got back to our desk.
I truly wish my working day was over at 5.00pm every day, but it isn't. I don't moan about it as I love my job, I love teaching kids and seeing them learn and grow, but I get hacked off when people who have never taught think they know what the [STRIKE]job[/STRIKE] lifestyle entails and just don't have a clue.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

i answered it in post 720 -
the reality is do your job or go. You tell me why a caretaker cant clear snow on the weekend. Tell me why teachers or TA's cant come in 1 hour early and all clear a bit.
Thats what happens in works up and down the countries, that's what keeps businesses going. If any school is shut because their premises are full of snow then their head should be held to account. It is a situation that can be predicted and managed and it isnt acceptable for it not to be.
The reality is that most schools closed on Friday because the school transport services refused to send out buses after 1pm. What are school supposed to do in that case?0 -

FB discussion started on Thursday night - non teaching friend moaning that he has to get into work, so why don't all the teachers? All teachers stating they WERE going into work Friday.
Friday - we all get to work, me at my 2 form entry primary. We all open our schools. Parents start collecting from 10.30am when the snow starts falling. 60 phone calls taken by 11.15am asking if we're staying open...parents continue to collect from school.
11.45pm, a third of the kids already having gone home with a parent, text message sent saying school closed from 12.30pm, please collect if you can. 10 kids left in school by 2pm being cared for by staff who can walk home. 1 child not collected until 3.30pm - 25 mins after school closing time as she couldn't get in. Dread to think how many more kids would have been stuck at school if we'd left it later to close.
School currently open tomorrow, but loads of parents saying on FB they aren't bringing their kids in as snow is so heavy. The local secondaries and nurseries around us are closed, as well as many other primarys. So I have to struggle in to babysit a handful of kids - as it will be drawing, colouring, DVD day as they'll be so few in. When I'd much rather being doing the pile of work I brought home, knowing that a snow day was likely.
Can't do right for doing wrong on this one.0 -

Ive worked on projects where I have put in 16 hrs + in a day, not for nothing mind IO am well paid for it. It isnt a 9-5 job, its a et it done job. That is obviously an extreme0 -
What, parents just turn up at school and say it's snowing so I've come to collect Freddie/Jenny? I didn't realise people did? I always thought you waited till school told you what was happening.
Nope, they began turning up at the doors. As it was snowing. Local parents walked in to do that. Didn't matter that the school site had been cleared and was safe to be in, they came to get their kids anyway.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
