schools opening when it has snowed!

I disagree.
There are lots of doctors, nurses, firemen, shop workers, cleaners and they dont get this. It is not simply the "weight of numbers"
I would rather not have a conversation via pm thanks.
I think you'll find that the above groups do all get bashed regularly. Dr's don't know what they're doing. Nurses are too lazy to feed patients, change their beds or give them drinks. Firemen.. Can't think. Oh yes, the strikes.
I had a text from the school this afternoon at 4.30 which must have been the last thing they did before they shut the office. We have had severe weather warnings for our area so they just state that they will contact us as soon as they are able to in the morning. I appreciate the warning. Hopefully, for those who are unable to look out of a window (not completely taking the pee here, DH has no window at work!), this will prompt people to try and arrange something for tomorrow.
I would rather the whole school was shut than any one child or staff member was injured trying to get to school.Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -

[ That would be a gross misuse of the risk assessment process. ][/QUOTE]
Explain. Without, having seen the school site that my children go to!0 -
Im a bit puzzled by this, when have I ever offered you a conversation via PM? Where has the above even come from?
You haven't. It was suggested by another poster. You know this because you responded.
Why don't you take your children out of school now for a last minute cheap holiday. Win win. They won't be marked as unauthorised absence as the schools are shut.
Oh yes, you won't be able to fly from Bristol, Heathrow or Cardiff though. People get a bit funny about flying planes in snow. no problem.
The idea of a risk assessment is to provide (believe it or not) a real assessment of the risk. This balances likely-hood (or probability) and consequence.
The requirement for emergency services is extremely unlikely, to shut a school because snow MIGHT stop the emergency services from attending something that is unlikely to happen is a farce.
A proper risk assessment would accept that the risk of that is very low, identify what could cause it then manage those events. For instance, if you were worried about an emergency response situation, you wouldnt shut the school you would just not do certain things that lent themselves to a higher probability of such an event (use of machiney and lathes in craft or contact sport etc)
What you would be left with is a perfectly tolerable level of risk.0 -
So lets get this straight, I have had a bad experience and then this has led to teacher bashing by lots of people
does that sound like a sensible explanation to you? Can you seriously not see the flaw with that explanation?
I have describe the view of others, how can it be linked to an experience of mine.
Given that you will consistently argue with anyone who disagrees with you maybe you said you didn't like teachers (for whatever reason), and those with whom you were conversing agreed with you. To shut you up.
As far as I recall the only person teacher bashing on this thread is you. As to teacher bashing on other threads or elsewhere I haven't, personally, come across any of late.
At no time, during this thread, have you accepted or agreed that classroom teachers do not make the decision to close the school but that this decision is made by the Head Teachers. You have stated, outright, that teachers are 'workshy'. A primary school teacher, working full-time in the classroom, will, I assure you, be spending additional hours during the evening and at the weekend marking work, planning lessons and preparing resources.
Many schools take groups of children on residential courses; for these the teachers will be with the children, and responsible for them 24/7; away from their own families for a few days; caving, rock climbing etc. Teachers sometimes supervise the playground over breaks and lunchtime; they spend their 'lunch breaks' clearing the classroom after the morning's classes and setting the classrooms up for the rest of the day, grabbing a 10 or15 minute meal break.
And then they have to contend with ignorant comments from people like you who have no concept of caring for, and teaching 30 or so children, day in and day out.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

A propos of nothing very much...
There are an extraordinary number of 'common views' which are entirely without merit.
They are usually based on prejudice and or stereotyping.
And often 'backed up' by a claim along the lines of "many people of my acquaintance share the same view/have had the same experience".
Which, when you think about it, is a completely evidence-free 'supporting' statement.
Internet users will have come across 'common view' arguments purveyed by WUMs.
And by a wide variety of internet posters from other demographics.0 -
The requirement for emergency services is extremely unlikely
You must be a joy to spend time with!0
