cheap iphone tariff?
Options
iPhone 4, 8GB £21/month with one off cost of £30
Direct from T-mobile.
I don't want to spend more than £21 a month.
I understand I get to keep the phone after 24 months.
I'd prefer an iPhone 5 but not an option given my stated budget.
Is there any option which would be less per month for the iPhone 4?
Or that same price or less for the iPhone5?
Is that deal basically as good as i'm going to get?
In which case i'll go for it.
I'm not interested in talking much on it. But it'll be good for the GPS (which I assume it has). There's no question i'm going to be using these maps as they're A-Z style quality
http://www.memory-map.co.uk/iphone/
And i'm fine paying for that. But that's the main use of the phone. Minimal talking.
Other than that I might use PAYG to send texts as I guess that's very cheap. I understand from talking to dealers, that once contract has run out, then if wanting to use the internet (not at at hotspot), would be a separate PAYG package eg £2/day £7/week £15/month. fine, if using the internet i'd probably do it at a hotspot mostly.
My main interest is navigation. Second to that, texting.. Not much talking. I could do PAYG talking after contract runs out. As I only talk on a mobile for like 2min a month.
I'm interested if it's cheaper for me to buy the handset, but also interested if there's a cheaper tariff. Or if i'm stupid getting an iphone 4 instead of a 5. Also, I may go for the tarrif because I want to know what it's like even if only for a period a it helps me make more informed decisions in future.

get a lumia then they can do all this, lot cheaper and more featuresDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

£15 a month for the other make, instead of £21 a month?
i'm interested in the iPhone first 'cos it's a classic I want to be good at using. After that contract, I may look at something of £15 a month.
I'd most like an iPhone 5 at £21 a month.. but I guess that doesn't exist!0 -
Seems like an expensive way of getting a SatNav to me. But each to their own, I guess.0

You could always get an Android phone which may have a cheaper tariff but you still get Google maps for all your navigation needs.
You pay a premium just for buying Apple. It may be worth looking into the HTC series which may be better for your budget but equally as good for what you will actually be using the phone for.0 -

I heard Apple lost the license for Google maps, and iPhone/apple maps are garbage. But you don't have to settle for iPhone/apple dodgy maps. This site has maps of A-Z quality http://www.memory-map.co.uk/ So, better than google maps. I had a pocket PC(HP IPAQ) about a decade ago that I couldn't browse the internet with(though maybe it was possible), but i'd connect a GPS to it and installed those maps and used it.
Looking at google.com, Google maps might only show all street names when you zoom in enough. A-Z maps have all the street names in there even if zoomed out a bit. I find A-Z maps better than those on the streetmap site too like for road names.
I don't know if memory map literally uses A-Z maps, but it seems to be of that quality.0 -

You heard wrong, Apple removed Google Maps as a system app with iOS 6.
Google Maps is now available (in an improved version with more features) as a downloadable app from the App Store for the iPhone.

At the OP, try for a 4S rather than a 4 if you can, it is a significant improvement and a better phone to have to keep for 24 months having all the same features as the 5 while the 4 is already seeing a restriction on features. The 4S shouldn't be much more than the 4, and still a lot cheaper than a 5.====0 -

Thanks and well spotted.
I should go for the iPhone 4S
I don't want to go over £21 a month
This one below, is £18.50 a month, but the limit seems to be 100MB data.
I'd be checking email, and maybe browsing a bit but have no need to be watching youtube / downloading videos.
I'd use memory map maps so won't have to download Google maps.
And if I want to install any apps, I suppose I could download them to computer and beam them via bluetooth, if that's possible?
How much of a limitation is 100MB of data a month?

Buy the iPhone 4s outright for £449 SIM free direct from Apple then get the free Ovivo SIM - £10 initial outlay (which acts as a £10 credit) then 100 mins/100texts and, probably crucially for you and the bizarre need to use it as a SatNav primarily, 400mb data per month for nowt. No crazily long commitment doing it this way.
PS The Tesco deal you mention requires you to pay £150 for the phone anyway and locks you in for 2 years. It's a very long time in mobile terms...0 -

On an iPhone (or any other smartphone)? I would say its really not enough. A frugal user might get by on 4-500MB, but ideally you would want at least 1GB if you intend using the phone to its abilities.====0
