OS DAILY Sunday 20 Jan

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 20th January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Morning all!! Snowed all day yesterday, but as I'd run out of milk I was in Tesco by 7 am. Thinking it would be safer when there were fewer people on the roads. Was back home with my coffee by 7.15 all stocked up. Sorted through my craft room and then decided to actually do some rather than just collect!!!! Made three necklace sets and then started on sewing hearts. Will keep making and collate to sell at some point.

Dog woke me at 3am, so have unloaded DW, spun washing and saved fire from last night. Washing drying in front of it on airer. Forecast shows large snow storms in NE tomorrow morning, so will have to find something warm to eat then! Might be doing roast beef today, if it defrosted.

Stay safe in the cold all.

Morning esmf and all who follow,
up at 5.15 as I just couldn't sleep so I've slammed the lamb in the oven and loaded dw. Sorted through the pile of ironing that I'm going to tackle later.
Still covered in snow here but DH managed to get the car up the drive y/day so we have some fresh veg, he couldn't believe how much the prices have gone up.
Every Sunday DH and I go to our local and meet up with friends for a lunch time pint and a gossip then home to laze about feet up in front of tv then dinner so not much is gonna be done today.
Hope you all stay safe and warm.
    ((hugs)) to all.
  • Morning all
The snow & slush has all frozen over night, so I won't be going far unless it thaws.
Washing all up to date, DW waiting to be unloaded, but I'm having a cuppa first, the fish have been fed & I need to do some ironing. Roast chicken for dinner, not sure what time we are eating as I'm not sure what time hubby is working yet, he's waiting for a phone call.
Hubby slept better last night, someone gave me an M&S patchwork quilt so I put it on top of our duvet, it made a huge difference & he was much warmer.
I'm working on another granny blanket, this one in shades of blue, as there are 3 more babies due.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning all,
No more snow here. Very cold though.
Had a terrible nights sleep, just kept waking up. I kept dreaming that i was being chased.
Did the housework yesterday. Just a few bits of ironing to do today.
No other plans to do today. In laws will probably be round, they usually pop in on a Sunday.
Roast beef with potatoes and veg for dinner. It's the last piece from Xmas.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Still dark here this morning, no new snowfall yesterday or overnight, but we're forecast to get a heavy downfall later today.

Dinner last night was a sort of HM takeaway, defrosted some prawns, and cooked a chicken, and made a pan of fried rice, which had onion, carrots, peas, mushrooms and shredded omlette stirred through - seasoned with soy and chinese 5 spice. Had a jar of Black Bean sauce (so not quite HM but excellent sauce jar from A**i so not expensive) which I then used to do prawns in black bean sauce - all clean plates and second helpings - so assume the menfolk enjoyed it! Really pleased we didn't succumb to a takeaway - it's best part of £25 now as my teenage boys eat loads! The meal I cooked wasn't particularly cheap but it wasn't anywhere near takeaway prices though! Boiled the chicken carcass, old bendy veg past it's best from the bottom of the fridge and made some stock too. Remembered also to get the joint of pork out to defrost - this is now in the fridge - will need to get it in the oven early as it's quite a large joint. So lunch will be roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/brocc cheese, carrots, peas, yorkshires and gravy. There is still xmas puds left if anyone wants a dessert but we don't normally have anything other than cups of tea/coffee after a big lunch. Also baked a victoria sponge yesterday although it hasn't got any filling in it yet - will do that later.

Another poster was saying how much fruit and veg prices have gone up - I buy my potatoes by the sack and we do get through a fair amount - but needed a new sack this week, couldn't believe that last year I was paying £5 a sack, this then rose to £8 a sack and the same variety of potatoes, same size sack is now £9.50 - the guy at the farm shop said he had another sort that were £12.50 a sack! Of course the snow is not going to help matters either!

Haven't done a strict menu plan this week but have several ideas, there certainly will be some pork left from todays joint, so am thinking I will do extra potatoes today, so I will have LO mash, and tomorrow night's dinner can be pork, fried mash/bubble and squeak, DH loves this with red cabbage. DS1 has his college interview tomorrow night too, so meals will be a bit disjointed - this will be an easy and quick meal that doesn't need that much cooking/attention. Have the ingredients to make the smoked sausage pasta with creme fraiche for Tues night, and will do some sort of casserole/stew for Weds, have other bits in the freezer so can organise something for Thurs and Friday - although Friday is shopping day.

Have a restful Sunday and take it steady, stay safe and well x

    Morning All

Good night last night with friends, I cooked a very large cottage pie with loads of different veggies and it was yummy, just the thing for a cold night.

Going over to Edinburgh this morning to meet DS2 and the Australians for lunch along with another friend of the childrens who has just lost her Granny so will give me a chance to talk to her and give her a big hug.

Still no snow thank goodness but looks like we may get some tomorrow.

Take care and enjoy Sunday. XX

    Good Morning All

Had a good nights sleep and got up early, OH did too and we have been quite productive this morning, OH has started the washing mountain and I have tidied my desk in the office in readiness for getting everything ready so the accountant can do our tax returns (last minute again )

It has started snowing here, it hasn't been bad up till now so we will have to see how it goes. Hope DS school wont be cancelled tomorrow.

Have lasagne for dinner today, was meant to have it yesterday but OH cooked a large brunch and none of us fancied dinner. DD's boyfriend will be joining us.

So hope to have a 'doing' day - had quite a lazy afternoon yesterday so no excuses :rotfl:

Have a great day all, (((hugs))) wherever needed.x
  • Morning everyone,

Rubbish nights sleep, ended up in the spare bed as OH and the dog had taken over my side!

It's snowing here again and is set to snow all day, I can't tell you how much I hate the stuff! Have managed to put out bread and peanuts for the birds, I hope they see it and eat it before its covered in snow again.

Eggs with soldiers for breakfast then a walk in the snow with the dog and OH before a pile of ironing and a roast chicken to cook.

Will ring my work friend tonight to discuss whether we need to walk to work tomorrow or not....

    Happy days!

Freezing over night and more snow to come:eek:
I heard DD and DS2 set off for the walk tho work at 5.30 am. Poor DS was shattered yesterday and fell asleep on my bed as he was chatting to me. He has not done that since he was little.

Wretched, bl00dy DLA form today:mad::mad::mad: Hate the way it makes me feel :cry::cry:

    Hugs x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
