My mum died about 20 years ago and my dad soon afterwards. They did the best they could as parents and sometimes they got things wrong but they were "good enough" parents just as I was a "good enough" daughter. What more can anyone ask for?

For all those who have their mums and dads-

If you love them, tell them while you have the chance.

If you cant tell the, then show them, even if it is just with a hug now and again.

    This.

We were a family who never said " I love you" but it was known. One Monday evening I chatted to my dad on the phone. He said he wasn't feeling very well. When we said our goodbyes, I had a sudden urge to tell him I loved him, but didn't say it. He died suddenly on the Friday and I've always regretted not saying it, even though I know that he knew I loved him. :(

Since then, mum and I always say it when we speak on the phone.

Aww. I love my mum too. She's is completely nuts, and extremely annoying. But she loves me, and adores my little ones. I lost my DH to cancer a little over a year ago (actually, 14mths ago today :() and she has been an amazing support. She can be a flake, but when the SHTF she is a really trooper.

Aww, my kiddies, coincidentally, have just said "mummy, I love you". Bless em. Little dears nearly just froze to death whilst I was dragging them round on the sledge :D they now love me cos the heating is on...

ETA I'd also like to spare a thought for MILs. Mine is a star, and I love her too.

But, as we know, not all mums were created equally. My aunt has been nothing short of evil to my cousin. :(

  • Aw this is such a lovely thread to see!

I love my mum (and dad), I could not have ever wished for more lovely parents. My mum has fought cancer, looked after all of us and never blinks or has to take a minute to think about having to help any of us (or anyone else).

It's my parents anniversary next Saturday and I'm in the throws of organising a get together for them - they've never had an anniversary party or anything so hopefully it will be well received :)

  • I love my mum too!

She has not always been perfect - but who honestly ever is?!

She means the world to me, and has been super supportive over the last two years where I sunk rock bottom and back up again.
I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

I have to add my MIL is pretty cool too. We go shopping and she attempts to teach me how to cook bless her. :D
  • It's nice to see this thread. I know not everyone is as lucky as those of us who have/had good mums. I still miss my mum every day after 18 months. She was my best friend and always knew what to say if I had a problem. She was so funny too.

I think it does children a massive disservice to try and be a perfect parent. Being human and making mistakes is a perfectly acceptable way to raise children. Lets not forget as parents we are preparing our children to go out into the real world. It would come as one almighty shock to them and something of a massive let down if they have only known experiences and people around them to be perfect.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

My mum is absolutely amazing, she is my rock and I'd be lost without her.
