Emzig has a great idea here in that she has listed her goals but also exactly how she hopes to achieve them. It's good to SMART with goals (Simple, Measurable, Agreed/Acheivable, Realistic and on a Timescale. So many of us just say "I'm gonna lose 2 stone by summer" but don't think about exactly how we are going to do that and so end up failing. It's great if we can do a similar thing to Emzi i.e. say "I'm gonna lose 1 stone in 3 months and I'm going to do this by cutting out chocolate snacks in the week, eating smaller portions and go for a long walk/ride/swim/ on Mon, Wed & Friday after work and at the weekend.
Sorry if that sounds a bit preachy , but I've been reading a good book regarding 'Overcoming Weight Problems' using a CBT approach (Cognetive Behavioural Therapy) and it has a really good approach to the whole weight loss thing.

    DebbyCatz,

I think if anything thats very good point and helpful tip for everyone on the thread.

OK so I'm going to improve my diet and my weight situation

I am going to do this by
    Cutting out sugar ladden snacks
Having three (minimum) glasses of water a day
    Cutting out carbonated drinks
Having 2 (minimum) portions of fruit and veg. I know it should be five but I'm working myself upward, baby steps etc :T
Improving meal planning skills so that I dont end up cooking quick rubbish
    Eating more fresh food
Cutting down on caffeine (very hard when you work in a tea and coffee shop, not cafe though, think Whittards but better :rotfl: )

Also going to ask Dr (after a very helpful PM following my first post) to test me for an over-active thyroid, as apprently I present the symptons for this.

P.S For anyone trying to lose weight, if you replace your caffeine drinks (i.e tea/coffee/coke) its prooven that green tea can increase your metabolism by up to 80%. Obv this is at its best with other good habits, but just a contribution. Anyone want any more info on this please PM me. I'm a fountain of tea and coffee knowledge

Yey! Inspired by Swishter's brilliant post I'm going to join in the, erm, fun. ;)

I am going to use the 101 day not so much as a deadline, but more as a reference point to look back on and see the improvements I've made. :)

My three should be easy: ;)
1 - Cut down the bad food that I eat, and thus improve my diet
2 - Use my exercise bike daily
    3 - Stop gambling

I've started NOW! Was going to McDonalds. Now I'm going to spend 20 mins doing some hard cycling! :D
Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345
    Debt free 21st Oct 2011.

    All thanks to :money:

Its great to see you all get involved!

I agree with Emzig about that plan to get there, not just to know where you want to be but how going about it.

I definitely think about babysteps, rather than just trying to acheive 1 goal within a set time frame we need to develop new habits which don't just help us now but good habits that remain with us in the future so we carry on with these positive steps. Am I making sense?? If so its a first! :rotfl:

    My goals are:

To clear my OD, Argos and most of my Egg Card
To lose weight and tone up.
    To Declutter my flat.
To stamp out my negative thoughs and replace them with good ones.
    To build a good routine.
To begin to build a plan for what my long term goals are.

The habits I will work on this week are...

    1, Start doing FlyLady properly.
2, Have at least 2 portions of fruit a day, I can eat that chocolate bar if I want but I must have a piece of fruit first, and 50% of each main meal must be veg.
3, Menu plan using up the stuff I have first!
3, Drink a big glass of water each morning and afternoon.
4, Sit down and eat my meals, chewing rather than bolting it down.
5, Take the stairs at work.
6, Get to bed at a decent hour.
    7, Spend diary.
8, Leave my purse at home - not got = can't spend.
9, Find 2 things each day and load them into my turbolister to be listed at the weekend.
10, Noting down in my notebook anything that makes me feel upset/or anxious so I can start to understand why and turn round my negative thinking.

It seems like a lot but they are small things, my plan is to build up on these and add one or two small ones per week...

Good luck to us all and a big :T to notanothergreyhair, for kicking this thing off and getting us started!
  • Hi, please can I join?

    My goals are:

    1. Pay La Redoute which stands at £614.77.
    2. Be more confident.
    3. Eat health.
    4. Do some exercise.
    5. Get ahead with OU study.

    How I will acheive goals:

    1. Look at budget for savings.
    2. Start going out and socialising.
    3. Eat less chocolate and more fruit and veg.
    4. Walk more.
    5. Plan study time better.

    Good luck everyone.
