Bf can't wet shave (looks like he's stuff his face in a bag of angry cats afterwards!)

:rotfl:That made me laugh.
• Hi Readers,

I buy cartridges that fit into my Gillette Fusion Power razor for £14.99 per 16 blades. They are NOT made by Gillette-look for yourself all Gillette blades are made"in China" and mine are made in China as well- could even be at the same factory I don't know. All I know is that they fit my razor handle, have 5 blades, have a lubricating strip and a sideburn trimmer at the back just like Gillette but at less than 50% of the cost.Where to buy them:dk88shop.co.uk for £29.99 BUT if you use a discount voucher from Living Social Deals that costs you £10.00 you get 16 blades/cartridges and only pay an Extra £4.99 for postage/packing making a total of £14.99 for 16 or less than £1.00 each. They also sell blades for other manufacturers razors including ladies razors.I get a great shave from my Fake/Copy/Pattern blades and can't tell the difference between them and the original Gillette ones supplied with the razor.
If there is no current voucher available from Living Social Deals you could always drop them a line asking when it will be repeated and wait for it to come round again.

Still using the same blade now which must be around 10weeks or so of use, just using the razorpit after every shave and it's still going strong with no sign of it wearing out anytime soon. To be honest I can't quite believe how good it is, I shave 5 days out of every 7 on average and must be saving a small fortune if each blade lasts as long as this one.

With this saving and use from each blade I would be happier to stick with the original blades.

Husband used to insist on Gillette, but at my suggestion tried Aldi's own brand which are much cheaper and he finds them just as good. I'm sure Lidl also have their own brand too.

My DH has been using the Lidl own brand one for about 3 years now. We usually buy them in France - €4.99 for razor and 10 cartridges. He's used 12 cartridges so far in that time - so still got 8 cartridges left! Going over to France again later this year so will probably see if they've got any more and how much they are now.

Just found a bargain for all you Gillette Mach 3 users. There's an Amazon seller who has 4 packs @ £2.19. Postage is £2.99 but discounted if more than 1 pack ordered. I've just ordered 5 (20 blades) with postage @ £4.99, total cost, £14.95. Just hope it's not another of Amazons' non existent sellers!

Just a warning.

I bought Gillette Mach3 blades from an Ebay seller and they were of such a poor quality that they cut my husband to ribbons - he did look like he'd fallen into a bag of angry cats.

I think that they were fakes.

I've always meant to try to Razorpit but never got around to it.
Ordinary hand dispenser soap for a lather or coal tar soap for sensitive skins with a Wilkinson Sword disposable works a treat and lasts ages even with tough stubble.
Avoid shaving foams and gels especially as they're a total ripoff - clog and dull with one use.

I despaired of cartridges years ago, thinking it was all a bit of a racket, and for a long time just used the cheapest disposables I could find (not without some qualms of conscience).

However, I recently realised that not only could one still get traditional double-edged safety razors and blades, they were arguably a better way to go.

I started a thread about it (lost the link for the moment - will post later), but basically, one can get started with:

- A Wilksinson Sword-Edged Classic double-edged safety-razor - £4-4.50 Amazon or Boots or try local chemist

- Palmolive shaving stick - 50p - Tesco or Asda
OR
-Palmolive shaving cream. Around £1.50 I think; Tesco or Asda.

-A brush. You can get these very cheap, but I suspect a good badger brush is a good investment, especially if you can find a cheap one.

- You don't really need a bowl. With the cream you can use the palm of your hand, and with the stick, apply it direct to the face, then lather up on the face. (In fact I lather up on my face with the cream as well).

Note that the Wilkinson Classic DE safety razor gives what they call a very mild shave, and is fine for me.

People with stronger beard growth or several days growth might not find it so ideal.

Note that the more expensive versions of DE safety razors are probably technically better, but are likely to give a less mild shave, so one might need to be cautious when starting with them.

I haven't tried it yet, but Woolfat Shaving Soap is supposed to be very good, and good for the skin. Expensive if bought with the bowl. Around £10 for just the refill.

Wilkinson DE safety-razor blades were around £3.40 for 10 in Waitrose recently.

Wide selection of blades in bulk on Amazon. Best read the reviews.

Ironically, people who go back to DE razors then seem to tend to build up a collection of expensive razors, thus probably negating a lot of the potential saving they were getting by moving away from disposables or expensive cartridge systems! :) But I can understand why.

- Palm-stropping - I've tried this, and it's not too lethal. The jury is still out whether this actually does much good. Also tried forearm.

There are other / similar techniques for honing disposables and cartridges - try Youtube or google.

I recently went back to double edge shaving.
I'm sure loads of people have given you good pointers but....

Double Edge shaving is good. Not as easy as a cartridge shave but I think it's going to cost me a lot less.

Shaver
Edwin Jagger shavers as they are a good all round beginner.

Brush
Also look at getting a badger hair brush as they are much better quality for not much more in price. Don't worry about a stand, they are just a gimmick which shouldn't be considered when buying.

Blades
Feather blades are really sharp, even for pro shavers. My Edwin Jagger came with some Derby blades, which are pretty good.
Astra blades are also good - on Amazon you van get 100 for £10. They need changing once a week or so but even doing that you will save loads compared with cartridges.
Asda and Wilkinson also do blades.

Further Reading
Check out The Shaving Room - there's loads of beginner threads on there, plus the guys often send sample blades out to beginners if you show enough interest. If not, you can buy sample packs as different blades will have different experiences.

He will also need to watch a couple of videos on YouTube from an infamous reviewer of shaving products. The name of which has a 9 in it but I can't remember the rest. The Shaving Room has loads of links anyway.

BEWARE: Some shaving products can get really expensive. Just search out TOBS (Taylor's of Old Bone St) to see how prices can really rack up. However if he does choose double edge shaving then you can get nice gift sets for Christmas.

If he really doesn't want start shaving like in the olden days, look at eBay. I managed to get 32 blades for about £50, which have lasted me a couple of years.

I tried the sharpening on some old jeans trick. It didn't sharpen them for me.
