I'm surprised at how many people on an Old Style board still think disposable (either single-use or after a few uses) products are the way to go. It's interesting to see where people's thresholds lie for what can go into the bin after a short time.0

I throw very little away and my bin needs emptying perhaps every 6-8 weeks but I do still have to think of how much something costs budgetwise and I do make my razors last a long time. And can often only throw out perhaps two or three in a month."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

The disposable razors are one of the few things we throw away.
If possible i break up the razors and recycle them appropriately and safely.
Don't be so judgemental before making a comment, yes this is a public forum but a lesson for life in general.
We recycle everything we possibly can.
I also post on freecycle anything that we use that can't be recycled and we are not going to use. Old veg peelings i give to my dad, feed the birds and local wildlife.
On average we throw out 1 black bag a week, and most of that is cat litter. Every 2 weeks the council collect our recycling which ranges from paper through to batteries and clothes.
I don't know anyone else who recycles or reuses as much as we do. every electrical item we buy is only bought when the original one is broken and even then we find a supplier who can reuse it. If it can't be reused we safely dispose of it with the aid of the local council.
We also buy disposable ones here as i have child with special needs who sometimes tries to copy his daddy and shave. These disposable ones means he can't easily take a blade out and hurt himself with them.

I use wilkinsons own brand. They work fine for me. You can get 10 cartridges for a pound.0

You get 4 Gillette fusion blades for about £8-10 off ebay. Using the rubbing technique they will last you about 3-4 months easy. I've seen 8 mach 3 blades for £11.0

Wet shave on Sunday wilkinson. Blades 4 for £6. Elect shave rest of week cruzer 3. New costs £33 on offer. New head costs £17 a year.
Use soap dish and brush, nothing in a can beats it. Total cost per year £25.
Oh, the front bit is kept best for the ladies and the cat.0 -
Thanks for your posts everyone.
Chatted to hubby and he decided to give Wilkinson Sword Classic razor with metal blades.
I ordered the razor with 4 blades off Amazon for £4.50. They sell packs of the blades for £3 odd.
Hoping they will work ok for him and will last a long time. If not it will at least see us through this tight patch and then I can get him some more Fusion and try to re-sharpening tips.
thanks all0 -

Just to mention that razor blades (because of their high cost) are one of those things where there are loads of fake products on ebay....so make sure you're buying from someone reputable0 -
I have been using the Gillette mach 3 turbo blades for the last few years to be honest love them, but the price has started to creep up and up and getting to the point that I don't want to spend that much on them.
Last night I spent a little time on the old tinternet and found a the Gillette sensor excell handle and blade pack, I used to use these many moons ago and got on really well with them, the blades for these are around half the price of the Mach 3 turbo ones, so plan on trying the downshift challenge, if I get on with them will stick with them, if not its probably back to the mach3 turbos with me just grumbling about the price. Never got on with wilkinsons blades/razors. Not sure about old fashioned safety razors they seem a little "unsafe" to me0
