Hi there,
We have separate accounts, and a joint account.
When we both worked, we paid into the joint account each month based on what we earnt, so if one earned twice as much they paid an amount relative to that. We knew what we needed in the account to cover the bills for the household, and then we had our individual accounts for individual spending, so for example; spending it all on an iPad or whatever - if we could afford it! ;-)0 -
My wage goes into our joint bill account which pays for all the household bills and mortgage, he pays for car insurances. I have access to his account so if I need anything or to pay for shopping I just transfer it into our joint spending account and then use my card. He's having to contribute a bit towards the bills at the moment as I'm on maternity pay.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

Other than that, we're on our own. I would hate asking him for money, and if we had a joint account I'd feel guilty buying stuff in case it went from his contribution.
This is what we do, he gives me his share and I make sure everything is paid.
I buy a big bulk shop once a month and he does a weekly top up.
We keep our own finances after that separate. I do earn less than him but I pay half of everything, its my choice and I think I am too independent to want to feel kept and not paying my way!Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'

He moved in with me so I control the bills. He pays 50% of mortgage and bills into my bank every payday and all the direct debits come from my account. We don't have a joint account as he got into financial difficulty before we were together and his credit rating suffered so by staying separate means at least one of us could get credit if we ever needed to. In a few years time when the bad stuff has dropped off we will probably have a joint bills account.0

When I first moved in with my OH, the rent (later the mortgage) and bills came out of his account and I did a transfer every month to pay my share. After we got married, we opened a joint account and had both salaries going in and the mortgage and bills coming out of that.
We're both pretty careful with money so I never worry that he's going to spend loads and leave us struggling - we don't consult each other about spending small amounts or buying essential things like petrol, but we discuss any big purchases.0
