Fuming with Sky!

I am so angry!:mad::mad::mad:
My Sky account cut off today, (I cancelled it because they couldn't find me a deal) I was told it would be a Freesat box then and nothing would change. I now find that I can't use the live pause, the recording facility or the playback for stuff I HAVE recorded:mad:
Phoned them up and apparently I have to pay £10 a month for that! So if I want them I still have to pay £120 a year, which I don't want to pay. Cancelling it saved me £37 a month, why would I want to pay out again? Thinking of changing to a Freeview box now, but I'd have to have an aerial put up, which may be better in the long run. GRRRRRRRR!
I Believe in saving money!!!:T

It's hardly a secret that you lose the PVR functions when you cancel your sub, widely discussed on here.
It isn't a Freesat box, it becomes a Freesat From Sky box, but no Sky+ functions.
The stuff you have recorded is encrypted, and Sky's take on this is that once you cancel your sub, you have no licence to use the decryption software required to view existing recordings.
If you still want the PVR functions, then a Freesat PVR is the better choice. A straight box swap, no aerial required.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I think you should be fuming with yourself for not doing more reasearch and understanding what you were giving up when you cancelled Sky. That's hardly Sky's fault is it.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear
  • Slightly similar thing happened to me when I went from HD to no-HD.. I couldn't playback previous HD recordings.

BUT.. it's the price you pay. If you want recording, get a freesat PVR

Yes, rather a pointless thread with a misleading title.

Sorry but is there a point here?

You will have to buy a freesat pvr or freeview pvr to have recording facility.

Which was nowhere mentioned in your original post...
You were also told it became a 'Freesat box', which might have set alarm bells ringing, because it's completely incorrect.

As you had Sky+, you should have two cables going from the dish and into the Sky box, so it should be fairly straightforward to purchase a Freesat+ box and connect it up using the existing cables.

Freesat has HD channels (not as many as Sky, obviously) & some models can access iPlayer/other on-demand services.
