I went to Lloyds today to see about getting a contactless card as my online account shows this card, yet I have the basic one, after what seemed like eternity she tells me my card is not elegible for one as it's only a cash/current account card, yet my friend who's with HSBC has a current visa debit card like mine is contactless, what gives? The Lloyds website say's it's only for debit cards.

I got mine by calling phone bank and when the automated machine asked what I wanted I said "Opt in for contactless card" and it got my through to the right department. The phone call was over in 3 minutes.

So people will be regularly asked to insert their card to confirm the PIN, so might as well just insert the card and enter your PIN each time. Buses are starting to use contactless now which is great, but not so great if you just bought something costing £19.99 and now the bus transaction gets refused asking for the pin, but has no way of supporting CnP.

I thought Barclays was bad enough with their limits, but this seems OTT to me. I know its really meant for coffee, but the last time I used a coffee shop I spent about £12.

I wouldn't trust TfL on the tube with CPC- I've been wrongly charged on my oyster enough times!

A year on from when I first got made this post and all my cards are now contactless :-)

Someone above said that a PIN would be requested every few transactions - in a year of using the card (a few times a week, every week) I've never had it prompt for a PIN.

I've also recently had a new card sent out which on the phone they told me I'd need to unlock at a cash point before I could use it. I completely forgot and just started to use it but it's worked no problems.

It depends on how you use your card- if you use a mixture of pin and contactless that might explain why you haven't been prompted for your pin.

Reading Lloyd's policy I will able to request a non-contactless card if I wish!
