Yes got my horse contactless card though last month, and pictures on online banking have changed to show the new card.

The pictures on online banking seem to have just changed all together. Shame, in a silly kind of way I was hoping they'd reflect the actual cards you have - I still have the Olympic design but my online banking shows the horse now.

    Little things!
  • I have the opposite question, how can I opt out of contactless? I've today received replacement cards from Lloyds TSB, and without ever having been asked to opt-in I've been sent cards with contactless technology. The leaflet says, "Contactless technology doesn't expose you to any greater risk of fraud, it uses the same high level technology that's behind chip and PIN," but I don't see how that's possible if I (or a card thief) don't have to enter my PIN to use it.

OH No you're kidding get down to the bank ASAP and if you take the card with you don't walk past anyone nor go on public transport and make sure your wallet/purse is covered with strong tesco tin foil and not the value sort.

Quick go now as you might be geeting scammed as we speak.

Lloyds TSB limit their exposure to 3 transactions or maximum spent £20 before a PIN is required. So in theory the most a thief could steal is a max of £20 and the bank would cover it anyway + There are random security checks so a thief is unlikely to risk it.
  • It's more the principle of the thing, maybe a thief wouldn't risk it but if I accidentally dropped my card or left it somewhere (never have done, but there are certainly people who have), a chancer could pick it up and pop into Costa for a quick coffee & muffin for free, OK the bank would cover it but I'd still sooner they'd given me the option or at least mentioned that the new card they sent me is inherently less secure than the old one (instead of trying to claim that it's just as secure when it's manifestly less so to the tune of up to £20).

I guess the fraud risk is talking about the risk of card cloning and suchlike.

It's all about managing risk. Yes, there is a risk that a thief could use a stolen card for a few <£20 transactions (for which you should be refunded). But each time you enter your pin, there is a risk of someone seeing your pin, and then stealing your card. Each time you pay by cash there is a risk that someone sees how much cash you have and then attempts to steal it later. On the side of the banks/retailers, they've decided that these risks are outweighed by the benefits (less cash on premises, less potential for transactions not being put through the till, etc.)

So people will be regularly asked to insert their card to confirm the PIN, so might as well just insert the card and enter your PIN each time. Buses are starting to use contactless now which is great, but not so great if you just bought something costing £19.99 and now the bus transaction gets refused asking for the pin, but has no way of supporting CnP.

I thought Barclays was bad enough with their limits, but this seems OTT to me. I know its really meant for coffee, but the last time I used a coffee shop I spent about £12.

Don't forget to seal the end with aluminium tape to stop any contactless waves leaking out :rotfl:
  • I went to Lloyds today to see about getting a contactless card as my online account shows this card, yet I have the basic one, after what seemed like eternity she tells me my card is not elegible for one as it's only a cash/current account card, yet my friend who's with HSBC has a current visa debit card like mine is contactless, what gives? The Lloyds website say's it's only for debit cards.
