On my first statement the £2 was not taken, but I did get the correct interest and cashback.
I am due my second interest/cashback tomorrow so will see if the £2 is taken this time.
Finally got around to going to a branch ATM for a mini statement. Call me a dinosaur, but have never had any trust in online banking. With our previous Halifax account that we had for many years we used to get mid-term mini statements easy at the supermarket atms, but appears you can only get the Santander ones from their own branches, is that right? But anyway, looks like the interest that was due along with the £2 account fee missed going on to the first statement by only one day as it was paid on the 1st March and the statement date runs from the 28th to the 28th.

Gave me a warm feeling inside as I read the mini statement and am really regretting not opening this last year when it first came out but was put off by all the bad press the bank itself seems to receive. So that will teach me. Have missed out on approx £500 in interest and cashback by not switching banks sooner. Haven't had any interest at all with the standard Halifax current account we had for years. Never even opted for their £5 a month account that they've had running for a while. Oh well, told you I was a dinosaur :o

Thanks again for everybodys input. Cheers
  • Just applied for the account now - waiting for the email/call within 3 working days if they need further info. Got my 2 direct debits sorted and got my NSandI savings ready to move into it :D happy days!

Has anyone tried opening more than one of these, and if so did you get opening cashback from TopCashBack for both?

Yes and no. I didn't use TCB.

i dare say this has been asked before, but is there any requirement that the two direct debits set up be monthly direct debits in order that interest is paid every month if the account balance is more than £1000? my council tax DD for example is for 10 months a year, and the water rate twice yearly. is that likely to cause any problem?

There is nothing I can see in the T&Cs that says the DDs need to pay monthly (or anytime). But you should confirm for yourself http://www.santander.co.uk/csgs/StaticBS?blobcol=urldata&blobheader=application%2Fpdf&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1223428158785&cachecontrol=immediate&ssbinary=true&maxage=3600

NB. DDs aren't the only pre-req for interest to be paid (just in case you thought they were)

Did you try to get cashback from Quidco for both, and did it work?

No, I forgot to apply through a cashback site :(:wall:

And to top it: I also forgot to use Quidco when I decided I want the 123 credit card. Bothers me a lot, this forgetfulness.
