Did he check the antifreeze, or the screenwash.

    My money's on the screenwash.

My screen wash is fine cos I top that up regularly. It was def anti freeze he topped up. He didn't use a tester though to check the strength , just said it was low and put about half litre in undiluted.

You should really check what kind of antifreeze he put in - they are not all compatible with each other to mix, nor compatible with different engines. For instance my car needs a HOAT type antifreeze, which Halfords don't sell. They sell the OAT type, which is known to knacker water pumps and the like. So I have to go to VW to get their G12+ HOAT antifreeze, even though my car isn't a VW!
In addition, though it's less of a problem these days, some antifreezes when mixed together will produce a nasty abrasive brown sludge, which isn't really what you want being pumped round your engine. Worth checking exactly what he put in, and checking with Toyota if it's OK - there really isn't such a thing as a "universal" antifreeze, which is what they (Halfords) tried to sell me the OAT stuff as!

HOAT is a mix of the old type antifreeze and organic acid antifreeze.

Makes you wonder if they know what this stuff does to engines.

Stick some vinegar onto some magnesium and see what happens. Is that happening inside our engines?
