I really can't believe some of the stuff i read here. Why the vitriol?

I am an ebay seller, legitimate, declared business income to hmrc, but even for private sales would not simply roll over and let paypal charges go through without factoring it into the cost. If you do that you are a charity!
surely all of us sell on ebay because we need/want the money.

Any buyer should understand that they have to cover the seller's costs. The seller's costs for shipment are surely at least actual postage cost, packing materials, time (i would guess normally ignored!), fees charged in putting the transaction through the system (i.e. ebay or paypal and in the case of postage, for paypal payers it's paypal fees), not to mention time and petrol/depreciation etc to go to the PO - it's not rocket science so why on earth get so worked up and have goes at people about it? Why should anyone expect a seller to subsidise the buyer by paying paypal fees on the postage and ending up with a loss?

Cost of the actual item is up to the buyer as well. If it is on for 99p then don't complain if it sells for 99p and you only make 10p. But as a buyer if the costs are laid out in the auction then either accept it or don't bid!

I think the main annoyance comes from the fact that the 'factoring it into the cost' means to many that extra cost is added to the P+P and not the sale price, im sure no-one is saying 'dont cover your costs' just dont cover them in this way, the more sellers that add extra costs onto P+P the harder it becomes to keep eBay running by the rules.

As a buyer i look down the list of p+p costs and bid on the one which is realistic, in the case with the OP though the buyer was quite happy to pay the advertised costs as they thought that meant they would receive it on sat, as they received a lesser service, so to speak, they should have a reduced fee.

Fees are factored into the postage costs to reduce e-bay fees - and for the price to catch the buyers attention. Simple business sense. Ebay say you can't do it so they gain more fees - but I could list all day things people do/sell on ebay that they shouldn't!

Poster above stated national businesses factor their fees into the main price - wrong. take Next home delivery for example - they charge £3.75 (?) delivery. My local courier gets paid 50p per parcel delivered. Where do you think the rest goes to? Why are they such a profitable business?

    Hi,

if the P+P is to high then you reflect that in the price you bid. I always charge an higher postage and packaging, as people forget the time that is involved. If you charged a true cost then you would be strung up.

    sourcing packing 5 mins
    Packing 10 mins
Taking to Post office 40 mins (round trip and wait).

    So time = 55 mins @ £6.00 per hour = £5.50

So now you can add £5.50 + packing + postage.

lmfao, you honestly charge people £5.50 an hour for your time, for something you decided to sell? unbelievable. Some people really do take the p1ss!

Some people take the P1ss by not reading the post.

    1. It was worked out on £6.00 not £5.50. If I really did charge per the hour then I would have to charge nearer to £15.00 per hour

    2. Did you not understand "If you charged a true cost then you would be strung up?" This meant that you would not be able to actually charge a true cost for the postage and packaging.

    Hope this helps.

P.S. I have typed this slow as I know you can't read fast.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Nothing you can do about your delivery time, but in the future never say next day delivery unless you are sure abou the cost of next day delivery. Special delivery one guarentees next working day before 1pm. there is the 9am option for a small fortune.

There is no option on ebay to list an item as special delivery saturday delivery so I would automatically assume next day would be next working day. Now this becomes an issue depending on the time the auction ended and when it was paid for. If the buyer paid for before the post office closed then I would also expect it to go out in todays post and arrive the next working day which would then be friday in this case.

As for chargeing extra to cover fees well that is up to you, I charge a little extra on top of the postage cost and packageing cost as it costs me to park near the post office, hey it costs to park anywhere in bolton now as the traffic wardens are right gits. they tried to ticket me once as I droped my dad off at the dentist I just pulled up he was getting out and they pounced out of nowhere.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
On the point of Saturday s.d's
If an item is posted on friday special delivery, Royal Mail will still deliver for saturday unless there is a failure. This is whether you pay for saturday guarentee or not, postman are obliged to make an attempted delivery.

Alot of buisnesses that are closed will request they're mail to be left till monday including specials.

The seller is now saying that they were expecting the item on Sat (as I did say next day delivery at the end of my listing - in brackets).

If you selected Special Delivery Next on the eBay Postage & Packing section it clearly states that it is a 'working day'
