What do I do? I might have messed up my Delivery option.

Hi

Just sold an item (auction ended on Thursday night). It was paid for Thursday night - and I sent it off as promised Special Delivery on Friday.

When I got to the P.O - they said it will arrive on Monday before 1pm (not the Saturday - unless I paid EXTRA)

As the p&p I chrged covered the p&p and my fees exactly, I sent it for Monday delivery.

The seller is now saying that they were expecting the item on Sat (as I did say next day delivery at the end of my listing - in brackets).

The item has been sent - and will be recvd on Mon - whatever I do.

What should I do? Anything? I can see why people charge £15 p&p now!!!

It depends you could say that you meant next working day delivery. Or you could be honest and say that you did not realise it was extra for Sat delivery and only had the correct money for the postage you had worked out. Is the seller asking for a discount or to return the item.

What did you charge to post and what did it cost? If your charges are reasonable then he is expecting too much (what i would class as reasonable would be anything within a pound or ywo of the actual cost).

For items I post on a Friday this is what I add:-

I have posted your item Friday (today) by Royal Mail Special Delivery. It should be with you before 1pm on Saturday. However the Royal Mail do not guarantee to deliver on a Saturday (esp. if business address) if you are in a hurry and it hasn't arrived it might be worth contacting the sorting office before noon. Otherwise it will be on Monday.

    Hi

I charged £9.99 for Special Delivery.

It cost £6 for the postage. £1.00 for the bubble-wrap. £ebay/Paypal fees were about £4.00

So my charges incurred were about £11.

Be very careful building so much of your fees into your post and packing charges. I admit that many sellers do, I always allow some slippage in my own post and packing to allow for miscalculations and other extras, but to build the percentage that you did in your example might just irritate the buyer enough to mark you down heavily for your charges, star wise.

Paying £10 p and p might be enough for the buyer to have assumed you had allowed the £8 for Saturday delivery that he expected.

You are not meant to add Paypal or Ebay fees to your postage charges. You can add a reasonable amount on top of the actual stamp cost to cover packaging, time and getting to the post office etc, but not for covering your Paypal/Ebay fees.

  • Hmm...if I was your buyer, I wouldn't expect you to cover your ebay/paypal fees by increasing the postage costs for me. I think you could well have an angry buyer when he sees how much you really spent on p&p. The extra he paid would have covered the saturday delivery.

Thank you folks. I was under the assumption I could factor in the charges such as Paypal.

Any suggestions on what I should say to this person? He/she hasnt threatned anything - but the one liner sent to me was tinged with disappointment.

As the item has already been sent there is nothing you can really do.....accept appologise for any disappointment caused and again explain that you did not realise that the Special Delivery standard charge did not include Saturdays. Then leave them glowing feedback for their fast payment and prompt communication etc

Funnily enough I sold 2 items this week that cost £6 to send via Special Delivery....I do hope you got a good price for yours ;)

I love this one -- why not? I know Ebay says you can't - but then Ebay say people can't do a lot of things that they blatantly do - so - why not?

I factor my fees into total costs - and then "say" it is my packaging/time etc - but in reality I have worked it out by cost of fees. I have two out of 700 feedback who say my fees were too high - and in those cases, yes, they were quite high - i guessed too high those times. It is the same classic - if you don't like the p&p on the auction - don't bid.
