Hi,

I'm looking for any feedback and opinions on the quality of sky's broadband. I dont live in a cable area so it would be good old fashioned internet. i'm not overly far away from the exchange.

Currently on orange/EE. i imagine sky just offer the internet through a bt line so would it be much difference to my current service?

do users here ever have drop outs or serious slow down at peak times?

Edit.. just checked my exchange and sky appear to be listed a LLU, would there be any difference switching from the ADSL orange i'm on to the LLU of sky? all rather confusing

Sky LLU broadband is fine, there is another thread on the same topic here.

Sky do LLU, Connect ( resold BT ) and FTTC ( resold BT Infinity ) broadband.

I had Orange broadband and experienced problems nearly every day which I had to fix by rebooting the router - very tedious.

I moved to Sky and had no problems.

Even though both services were over the same copper wiring, Sky were much more reliable.

    YMMV

thats interesting. I used to have so many drop offs with orange, but found it was mainly down to their netgear router. bought a tp link one and problem was solved. though recently it tends stutter before carrying on as usual.

does sky not use ADSL2 then? would there be much of a change over delay switching from ADSL to whats listed on my exchange on samknows as LLU xDSL?

also while here, do these line stats look reasonable?

    Downstream

    SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 128
    Attenuation (0.1 dB): 210
    Output Power (0.1 dBm): 198
    Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10240

    Upstream

    SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 270
    Attenuation (0.1 dB): 130
    Output Power (0.1 dBm): 119
    Attainable Rate (Kbps): 1180

Assuming your downstream attenuation is in fact 21 db then....
    ADSL2+ Speed Test

We estimate your line is capable of between 16mb to 24mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

i'm only on a standard 8mb ADSL. I think my exchange was only recently updated to ADSL2+ within the last 6 months or so. doesnt seem like orange have bothered to upgrade me or ask about it.
heard alot of bad things about sky when they first started offering BB, but maybe that was just the connect package. i think their LLU is recent here too.

Considering i've been with orange for enternity, through wanadoo, freeserve, orange and now EE. they should be offering me a free year lol
