This would be a sale and repurchase so you could be out of the market for a little while and you could generate a chargeable capital gain.0 -
I asked Vanguard about this a few months ago as it's what I want to do.
They told me I'd have to sell some units and then use the cash to buy units in my ISA - they can't transfer direct from one to the other.0 -

True. I was think of "bed and ISA", which should make the transaction easier, but perhaps Vanguard won't do that?0 -

You can’t transfer any investments into any S&S ISA from outside an ISA environment (except possibly for some employers share schemes). All new money has to be in cash.0 -

Some providers will provide more assistance than others, but with funds (where orders are processed once a day, as distinct from individual shares which are bought and sold real-time on a stock exchange) there is less need for the assistance. You can only fund an ISA by putting cash into it so if you don't have the cash on hand yourself to put into the ISA, you will have to wait for the sale of a fund within your general non-ISA investment account to settle (3 days as standard) before you can subscribe it to your ISA and buy it again - unless your platform provider is willing to front you the money or allow you to place the order in the ISA without cleared funds being available in the ISA, to let you do it quicker than that.0 -

There's nothing to stop you doing a bed and ISA process yourself, though if you don't have cash on hand to fund the purchase order inside your ISA you'll be out of the market for a few days pending settlement and transfer of the funds.

Yes, I understand that. What I was talking about was the platform automating the process with one instruction.0 -
My two children have S&S JISA with Vanguard, if I set up a S&S ISA in my own name would this be ideal if I only paid into it £100 month? Looking to stay 10 years at least until first child ready to go Uni if she does.0

Assuming that the funds offered by Vanguard meet your needs and risk profile then yes.0
