Lost mobile phone- Lifestyle services payout issues :(
Options
I lost my blackberry 9780 about a month ago and went through the whole procedure with lifestyle services group via my barclays account.
They cannot find me a phone so have decided on a cash settlement but they are only offering me £150 based on amazon. However i have had a look on amazon and all the new 9780 phones on amazon are atleast 200-250 pounds. The only phones i see what are around £150 are the refurbed ones. I dont want to buy a refurbed phone as it could be defective and cause issues hence why it is called a refurbed phone.
What do you think i should do?

Well, does the policy promise a "new for old" replacement? If not, a refurb is what they are supposed to give you.0

Just had a look at the policy and nowhere in my eyes does it say they have to give me a refurb.
I have included a few points so if you see sometyhing different from me do let me know.
3. The settlement we offer for the phone will be based
on the current market value of the registered phoneor one of similar speciication and functionality
(where the phone is no longer available on the
general market).
4. Replacement phones and accessories will come
from available stock (which may be subject to
change). In the event that the same model is not
available or has been discontinued, the replacement
will be of a similar speciication and quality, as
determined by us. We will contact you to conirm
the phones that are available.
5. If the phone is lost or stolen, we will provide
reimbursement, at our discretion, by BACS transfer
or cheque payable to you, or by direct payment to
the airtime-provider for the cost of unauthorised
calls up to a maximum of £2,000 (including VAT)
per claim for Monthly Contract phones up to a
maximum of £100 (including VAT) per claim for
the cost of unauthorised calls on Pay-as-you-Go
phones. We will advise you of the method of
reimbursement when the claim is authorised.
Do i have a leg to stand on?0 -
"New for old" is rather an exclusion than a norm.
The norm is to replace with the same, i.e. not new. Some words in your quotation suggest exactly this:
"current market value of the registered phone" - note, the registered phone, not the model.
"of a similar speciication and quality"0 -
take the cash and get a huawei G300 for a ton0

This phone is available on the market e.g Amazon.
I think i'll write them a email and see what i can do.

Thats really not a option to be honest. I bought a blackberry for £360 and have been paying insurance to cover that phone so i feel the least they can do if offer me enough to buy the same phone or give me a replacement not fob me off with less than half of the purachase value.0 -
Good luck with that, but unless an insurance policy specifically offers 'new for old', I suspect your expectation is a tad unrealistic. Insurance is intended to insure you against loss. What you lost was not a new phone.
How old was your Blackberry? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

How old was your Blackberry?
Just under 8 months.
I personally think they are trying to fob me off with less money, i mean if they can tell me that the phone is on amazon sure enough they could order one and give give me a new phone?
2Weeks ago i was told that they would order my phone and once they get it in stock they will send it out which i agreed to and now they want to give me £150 which is not even enough to buy the phone on amazon.0 -
All mobile replacements from Lifestyle are refurbs which come with a 12 month manufacturer warranty.
You can either wait for them to get a refurb in stock, select an alternative phone as a replacement, or take the refurb value in cash.
That is all you are going to get from them, and I know this because I recently had my SIII replaced after I lost it and those were my available choices.
As has already been said, your phone was not new when you lost it, so you won't get a new one as a replacement because Lifestyle do not offer "new for old".Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -

Well the most i can find on the amazon site is £175 which is still £25 short. I have fired off a email asking them to send me the link to the phone they have seen on the amazon site for £150 and only then will i be able to accept any sort of money.0
