i hope im posting in the right place !
i just picked up a wii second hand and am having problems connecting to the tv.
it came with a cable that has 5 outlets for the tv - 2 red, white, blue and green.
problem is my tv only has 3 coloured outlets at the back that they fit into - red, yellow and white.
my tv is a Toshiba 32BV501 32 Inch HD Ready LCD TV.
after googling a lot last night, it seems the connections i have are for a hd tv, so im truly baffled.
help??

It sounds like the cable you have is the Wii component cable, which has red, green and blue connections for video and red/white connections for sound.
Does your TV have component inputs?0 -
i dont know what is meant by component inputs but all that is only the back of the tv is 3 points which are red yellow and white and then various other bits but the points dont fit into them.
im just surprised that as my tv is HD the leads dont work as they are meant to be compatible i thought.
sounds like i will have to buy a 3 point lead to match my tv.
thanks0 -
Yup, your Wii came with a Component cable, the connection you're on about is a Composite connection, and uses a cable like this:
Usually they come with little SCART blocks to convert the cable to SCART
I looked up the specs for your TV and accordingly it has a Component connection. Do you have a Red/Green/Blue connection on the back? If so try connecting the Red/Green/Blue of those cables up to them (the video part), then the other Red/White to the Red/White other connections (as they're for audio).0 -
Your TV may or may not have component (that's your 3 colours for picture, plus 2 for sound) but should do I would hope. This gives a better picture than the yellow, red and white leads (composite). If not, I'm sure you can one (nik_doof's 1st picture) cheap on eBay.0

the wii actually came with a scart adapter like that one you showed but again the colour coding doesnt match all 5 colours that i have on the wii connection.
i only seem to have places for 3 of the wires in the back of my tv0 -

Yep, looks like you'll need a composite cable. You can get them either in GAME brand new, which will probably be around £10, eBay for £2-3, or maybe if you look in local Cash Converters or CEX they may have one going cheap if you ask. You just need it to look like the cable I linked above, with Red/White/Yellow on it.0 -
ok thank you0

The green socket is component, according to the OM (page 16) the TV was supplied with an adapter lead:
"In this case, you must use the supplied Component YPbPr video
connection cable for enabling connection. First, plug the single jack of the cable to the TV’s YPbPr socket (side). Afterwards, insert your YPbPr cable’s (not supplied) connectors into the plural part of the supplied YPbPr video connection cable (see illustration below).
Colours of the connected jacks should match."0 -
