If the person who bought the vouchers did so with a card they (not you) can use the chargeback process to get the money back. Otherwise you are a creditor of HMV and a long way down the pecking order.

Is it not about time the government do something about vouchers that have been PAID FOR BY CASH OR CARD when a company goes into administration it is so very wrong because they have had your money so in my eyes that's theft, i wonder what would happen if you walk in store pick up the value of goods to the voucher and just slapped the voucher on the counter and walked out the store works both ways in my view.

There isn't enough value in the company to pay for it's outstanding debts, which means if everyone "took what they were owed" there wouldn't be enough to go around. This is *exactly* why administrators are appointed.

the fact is vouchers etc. are invalid for 1 main reason.

    take comet for example

you gave Comet Group Ltd cash/card payment for voucher or goods to be delivered, they go into administration and during this time become Comet Group (in administration) Ltd, which is a different entity and as you never gave anything to Comet Group (in administration) Ltd they are under no obligation to honour any orders etc. in relation to Comet Group Ltd

Yes for a short time comet were accepting vouchers, but this is not normal practice

You'd effectively be stealing from the other people owed money by HMV. Remember that HMV is in this position because the money has simply run out: there is not enough money to pay the lenders, employees, landlords and suppliers.

So I take it this means the HMV vouchers I recieved for my birthday this morning are invalid. Great. Is there ANYTHING I can do?

Other than registering as a creditor no there is nothing you can do, you will be far down the list mind but you can try. You can hope the administrators will accept vouchers but they dont tend to do so.

All stores now NOT accepting returns for any reason and NOT accepting gift cards.

Thanks for the help, I'll give it a go on Saturday I guess but I'll go in expecting nothing.

Compare your £10 loss to HMV's suppliers- who are owed thousands of pounds and still have un paid-for stock on the shelves.

As it stands no chargeback rights on vouchers.

Awaiting further info, but its not looking good.

    Its join the creditor list.

Best advise at the moment is to return gift card to who paid for it. Ask them to apply to the administrator for a claim form. As they may payout. But if they have not heard back from the administrators after 3 months to contact their card provider/bank and see if the position has changed.

yes and my uncle one of them as such. Only last week he fitted 6 storage heaters in his local branch, but the day before the admin notice was made official the branch manager called my uncle to see if he still have the old removed heaters (which he had) and told him to go to the branch and remove the new ones and refit the old ones as he would not get paid for the new ones by the company.
