It may well be that they are not permitted to have the house 'overcrowded', even if they were to desire to have him move back in.0 -

The local council or direct gov website will identify the shared room rate applicable to the under 35s. Unfortunately, if his rent exceeds this, the tenant must pay the difference themselves.
See the Shelter or Citizens Advice website for how local housing allowance (housing benefit for the private sector) works.0 -

I would never allow my son to live on the streets, so yes if need be a sofa could be found. We however are in a property that has no room for growth. If we were able to move somewhere bigger ourselves then there would be room. He has lived away from home since just after his 18th. He has worked since leaving college and always supported himself. He rang to tell me the news about HMV and to ask if I could find some info for him, which is why I came on here. The information (useful stuff) given so far has been helpful and we appreciate it. I love all my children and will do my utmost to help them. So far he still has a job, and will do he best to get another if and when he needs to. To those that feel the need to, please do not criticize me for not being able to do you think I should.Wins in 2013 - Jan - Heinz No Noise Ketchup.0 -

With respect Katie, at 19 he should not be working in HMV but trying to get a degree or some skill that will help him setup in life. How harsh that at 19 you are not able to stay with parents and have to seek out benefits.0

Dont give up hope on HMV yet. This could turn out to be just a debt write off exercise and they'll be "saved" somehow. Although I'm sure some stores will close. I expect they'll continue trading for now rather than do a jessops and close within 48 hrs.
Although, either way, he should continue looking for alternative jobs.0
