How much do you spend on a present for your childs school friends party?

My five year old gets invited to a party every other week. I usually buy something off amazon for a fiver, write a card from a cheap multi pack and wrap the present in paper off a big roll from asda . When he started preschool i used to spend 8-10 pounds but when parents can't be bothered to say thank you it gets annoying.

  • Loosely £5, but if it looks like a fiver but cost less that works too; e.g. I got some Lego brick light key rings in the Sainsbury's sale for £2.10 instead of £7- they'll do just fine. I keep a stash of things to hand, then the children choose from The Presents Box- the Book People sale is good for stocking this box too.

For closer friends I'll go up to £8-10 but usually it'll be less than this.
They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.
  • Oh, and they make their own cards and wrap in tissue paper. I keep every gift bag that comes through the door, and make tags from big jigsaw pieces, and reuse ribbons, and ..... :D

Tends to be around a fiver in my area too: I try and let the children choose a suitable present themselves (keeping within the budget of course) as I think it' s a good skill to encourage in little ones. I'm a bit of a meanie with the cards and gift wrap, though as you could easily add another £3 with those, so I stock up on cheaper cards and wrapping paper from Home Bargains or similar places.
  • About £5 usually. A little more for closer friends maybe
Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T
  • Cards from the Card Factory, usually 8-10 for £1. Presents no more than a fiver for most. A couple of close friends, maybe £8ish, but these tend to be friends from outside school. I also keep any gift bags, tissue paper, ribbon, etc that finds its way into my house and if it isn't used by us, I pass it onto my Rainbow and Brownie units. It isn't being mean, it's recycling :D

The older it gets the more expensive it gets but there are less of them as they don't go to as many parties.

It used to be more as there were less parties but the more parties made the cost too expensive to sustain, so now everything is bought in the sales, cards in bundles of 10 , so I'm always prepared and the presents always seem more expensive than they cost me which they were:D
