Hi
I have recently become a new mummy and I am really struggling financially.
I would really love some help and and advice on where to find safe and in good condition baby products such as high chairs, baby walker, and even a decent looking cot and I'm sure this will help others that are looking for the same.
I really hope you can help!
Thanks

I always found Netmums, Freecycle and Babycentre.co.uk the best sources of baby goods and clothes as they all have local groups. NCT have nearly new sales too.
Best of luck!!

NCT Sales have been a real pocket pleaser in our family. eBay local searches are good too, I keep a number of saved searches for baby equipment locally. Jumble Sales, Mumsnet/Netmums and Freecycle.
Immaculate Cot was 99p collect within a few miles, used as a spare at Granny's house. I did buy a new mattress, but saved us lots of money.
We also have a great second hand baby stuff shop, stocking prams, clothes, toys and other equipment.0 -
I found freecycle and ebay the best bets - although occasionally the local charity shops have had real bargains!
I got an M&P cot for £14, M&P pram for £25, maclaren buggy for £15, re-usable nappies (all ebay) baby bouncer for £2 from a jumble sale, cot sheets and blankets from charity shops, loads of clothes from charity shops, a baby bath support and some toys from freecycle, then kept an eye out on here for news of bargains/baby events for everyday stuff like wipes/disposable nappies, cream, etc.
I think the only things we bought new were the cot mattress and the car seat.
If possible, borrow stuff from people you know with children slightly older, or put an ad on freecycle for the things you're after - you never know, you might time it just right with someone getting rid of stuff having decided their family is now complete0 -
Gumtree and Preloved are another couple of sites. There are probably tonnes of selling pages local to you on FB - some may be baby items specific.
We have a local Banardos shop that only stocks children's clothes. Some of the items on there are new/seconds from the likes of Gap. Oxfam online also do similar.0 -
Gumtree, preloved, eBay, carboot sales are your best bet. Only try locally if you want to check something out before you buy- but remember if you use Paypal you do have a come back.0

I have got some great bargains from eBay (complete Winnie the pooh mothercare nursery set including cot bed for £90!)
Try to avoid sit in baby walkers though as I've been told they hold walking back and they're dangerous!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

Hello, I agree that freecycle can be good
We managed to pick up a highchair when my eldest was little.
We have also picked up some bargains of Ebay-it can take a few weeks of watching things and waiting for something local though.
If you do buy anything new-make sure you try some of the cashback sites/discount codes etc to help a bit more.Mommy to Elliot (5) and Lewis (born xmas eve 11!)0 -
Freecyle, ebay and gumtree, also there's alot of 'Swap, buy and sell' pages on facebook, might be one that is around your area. Kiddicare website is good too, got my dd car seat for half price!0

Facebook - I got a lot of stuff on the buy and sell pages on there. Think both my cots came from Facebook and were nearly new. I also buy huge clothes bundles for the kids for around £10 for a huge bagful of nearly new things. Babies wear clothes once or twice and they don't get dirty or worn! If it's your first you'll be given LOADS of clothes.
Carboots were fab - I got most things there - walker, swing, bouncer, activity centre, highchair, playmats, toys etc. Wouldn't say they were like new but they get used and passed on so quickly. I bought new for my eldest (2) but not for my son (6months) as I regretted it.
Pram - I have gone through every pram, pushchair, double, travel system etc. you can imagine. And my favourite in the end?? A £50 stroller.
Carseats - buy new (do your research online then try a few you like in Halfords (ask to demonstrate) and then buy them cheaper online.
I tried re-useable nappies and used them a fair bit with my eldest but when the youngest came along it was just too much.Debt December 2012 - Approx £4070...
February 2013 £2784.640 -
If you are in Scotland there are also Jack and Jill markets (webpage and facebook).Began comping 1st Feb 2013, no prizes yet! :wave:0
