How do I get rid of unwanted advertising on my mozilla firefox

I believe it is called vibrant intext advertising. What happens is that certain words in my text are underlined and when my pointer goes over that it brings up a big advertising box. I have read that by installing adblock plus this will stop it but it doesn't.
Help!!

What toolbars or other plugins do you have installed?

  • I have Chrome on Win 7 home premium Netbook with various Ad blockers on. Ad Block, Ghostery etc. Now I have a better experience and hopefully the Ad servers cannot track me.
Surely Firefox has millions of extensions that do the same thing?

Thanks for your reply. Please bear with me as I am not that computer literate.
I have gone into tools > add ons > plug ins and it is quite a list eg adobe, microsoft, coupon voucher, etc. Is there anything you think I should be looking for.
As for the toolbar. At the top of my page I have the address bar and alongside of it the search bar with claro search written in it.
Underneath I have shortcuts to my favourites about ten.

I had this, and for the life of me, can't remember which add-on was the culprit. Look under tools/add-ons then start disabling items under 'extensions' and 'plugins' until the annoyance stops. You won't do any harm, and you can re-enable whatever you temporarily disable. Sorry I can't be more specific as to which one id causing the problem...

Thanks for the help above. I have gone into plug ins and disabled java plug in 6 updates 31 through 38.
I haven't a clue what it is but it seems to have done the trick.

I hope it has now gone. I had probably the same as you - link to the thread HERE . I thought it had gone but it reappeared. In the end, after following all the advcie, I ended up uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it. My anti-virus (AVG) picked it up trying to reinstall (though it let it through in the first place ).

    Good luck.

Try uninstalling as I did. Fingers crossed, it's really annoying. Are you getting random pages opening as well?

See if you can uninstall Claro Search from 'Control Panel' then 'Add or Remove Programs'/ 'Programs and Features', depending on your operating system.

Download the latest version of Malwarebytes (green arrow, upper right), install it, taking care to decline any trials etc.

Run UPDATE, then run 'Quick' scan, should take minutes.
Follow the instructions regarding any infections found. In all instances a log will be produced, post the log over on the Techie Forum.

I have to be up @5.00am so can't help any more. :)

If no one is around to help, you can download and run ADWCleaner, use the 'Delete' option, it will run a quick scan followed by a re start of your PC. A log will be produced detailing any (?) detections it has dealt with.
Again post the log in the Techie section.

    Really must go.
    Move along, nothing to see.
