Wedding Dresses??

I got mine from myweddingdressforless.com. I found the dress of my dreams in a shop for £1000 and went online searching for a way of getting it made cheaper. Found one v similar but not totally exact, including the veil, hoop, dress and a little jacket it all came to £300.
I had to get it altered around the bust area and had heard some horror stories about getting chinese made dresses altered but this was done without issues and the lady that altered the dress said it was a very well made dress.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Absolutely nothing wrong with buying online a lots of good links here however I really do think you need a girly day out with your mum/best mate to at least try some dresses on. My mum made my dress (first time!:o) but we did go to a big wedding shop to try some on and what I had in my head as being 'right' looked awful on and I ended up going for exactly what I had said I didn't want - it had the ooooh factor though and was the one that made my mum reach for the tissues!
And several years ago I made a wedding dress for a friend who decided after I'd done the top that she didn't like it!!!! She'd seen it in a mag and not tried it on but the skirt which was she had tried was just what she wanted.
So just be careful that you are getting what you actually want not what you think you want.
Have a lovely day.0 -
Don't forget BHS do some lovely dresses at very reasonable prices - if you have a wedding outlet near you then you can try on to your hearts content and then wait until they are having a special offer weekend or sale online and get it even cheaper. I did this last year - and only spent £100 on my dress. A fraction of what I could have spent.
Also try Preloved for dresses - some fabulous bargains to be had there and some have never been worn. But do have a few trips out just to try on dresses and get a feel for what you like/love before you part with any money.

I'd echo what others have said, it's worth doing some dress shopping to get an idea of what suits you. I did that and found a couple of Maggie Sottero dresses that fitted and suited me. I then found a similar model on ebay which I got for £99, it was an ex sample dress and when when it arrived it was in really good condition and didn't even need a clean.
The Maggie corset style dresses are nice as they tend not to need altering around the middle. My friend's mum took mine up and once I'd used it I passed it on to a work colleague who got it cleaned and used it for her wedding
Happy dress hunting!Piglet

Hi, pop over to the weddings board, we're all very 'wedding minded' over there:rotfl:
I went to a shop, tried a load on and fell in love with a dress which I then bought on ebay. Dress was just under 1k and I got it for £100 off ebay :money:
I guess it depends if you mind someone else has worn it, I'm really not bothered, although when it arrived I examined it meticulously and there's not a mark, click or pull on it.
Ebay and preloved would be a good bet.
If you find a dress you like, post it on the weddings board and we all try to find it cheaper for you :TForty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -

Happy dress hunting!
My wedding dress was a Maggie dress, which I ordered from the shop, think it was around £950, but the only altering I needed was the length (even though I ordered the 'short' version and Im 5'3'' not like 4 foot something!). I did look on ebay but most were in sizes that wouldnt have fit me.
Because it was a corset if you put on or loose weight you can adjust it. Some of my friends had to get all types of bits on their dresses altered which adds on a lot.
I would definitely try on dresses before you order anything, often the thing you think would look nice, looks awful on!
you can ask a chinese ebay shop to make a copy for you, the only one Ive heard good reports of is the one mentioned above.0 -
Check out your local wedding shop. I got my wedding dress for £100, plus a free tiara. The shop owner will be doing the alterations for me too.0

Here is a list of high street stores that do lovely wedding dresses. Most offer online services so you can order and send back.
Don't risk an untried service, and don't go spending a fortune. I have a dress which cost £1500 scrunched up in a suitcase. Such a waste of money.0 -
I definitely recommend having fun trying dresses in a proper wedding dress shop it's wicked fun - plus you don't know really what suits until you try it
I had a decent budget for a dress but found my dream dress in an Oxfam shop that had a floor dedicated to bridal wear, for £100!
Wishing you lots of fun choosing 'the' dress :TFinal cigarette smoked 02/01/18

I wouldnt buy from China - a lot of them are ripoffs of UK and USA designers and the materials and cut are substandard.
I would look for secondhand designer dresses whose owners are UK based - that way you should get get a good quality at reasonable price.
or even go into large department stores - with the addition of a veil etc their bridesmaid dresses would look great as wedding dresses! at a fraction of the price.0
