Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 13th January 2013 - . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning Everyone

Thought I had better show my head over the parapet, and say Hi, as I have not posted for a day or so, nothing really to say is the only reason, and not much today either. ;) Skye has moved into her big cage for sleeping now, but she has to have a fleece over her (3.99 for 2 at B&M), she woke up at 5.30, so I gave her a cuddle and then popped her back and covered her up, and she slep through until 7.30. She is getting to be a real star, a quick woof at the door leading through to the garden, means I need to go out, and if the door to the kitchen is closed in the evening a quick woof at that one means I either want my biscuits or a drink. She is not a greedy dog, so I put her biscuits out and she eats them when she gets hungry, oh and if she stands by her cage and does the woof, then the door is closed and her favourite toy is in there and she wants to get it out (she sleep with it). I think she could scare anyones BD away.

Yesterday popped to Aldi, I think it is getting to be a victim of its own success as the car park was almost full, and queues at the tills, not manic ones, but just shows, and some folk with trolleys very full. We have been using Aldi now for over 17 years, and I use Lidl as well, because they are cheap, no because I like their stuff, find it is better quality for the same things from the bigger supermarkets, and now they have extended their range(s) usually manage to get everything there, especially if you cook from scratch. Yorkshire and tight, yes well that too.:D

Came home, put the stuff away, popped round to a friend/neighbour to have a coffee and see their new fitted wardrobes, came back did a few bits, sat down for lunch, and fell asleep. So there went yesterday.:o

Today I have come into the office to finish the sorting first thing, so what am I doing posting on here!:o:o We have our caravanning friends coming over from Hull and I had a Gressington Duck in the freezer YS but of course, so will do that, an use up the cheese from Xmas for the pudding. Got new spuds and various veg. and some oranges to make an orange sauce. Better sign off and start, as days counting down fast now.

((((hugs))) to all who'd like to grab them, Hi-5's, Spoons, etc., if they are your thing

Take care everyone. DG

  • Good morning everyone :)

Yesterday's plan was a success and I have a clean house to leave this morning and a freezer full of meals/part meals. I didn't get everything done but have made a real difference to getting back into a routine.

Off to work now so will leave well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs to those who need or just want them. Keep warm and safe and have a super day :)

Morning Donny and TTFTM and all who follow,

    Jools, Unclebryn Hugs.

LW, Molly and Lou Hope the BD stays away.

Hilstep Well done on the weight loss.

JackieO Did your DD hear about the job?

    Elona Happy Birthday for yesterday.

Topsy Hope that today is a better day.

I have got up early to get DD2 up for netball and the match has just been cancelled due to the ice so I am having a quiet cup of tea.

Les Mis was fantastic yesterday, even Russell Crowe's singing wasn't as bad as I expected. The woman in the seat behind me sobbed through all the sad bits!

Today I have to get some batch cooking done for the week ahead and hopefully a bit of decluttering.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Morning DG, TTFTM & all who cross/follow
Tea & crumpets for breakfast for me hubby will have a full English when he gets up. If it stays dry he'll be out in the garden for the day. I'm now sat watching one of my favourite films 'I Remember Mama' & coughing violently, lol.
Roast beef for dinner today, leftover from Christmas & already cooked, sliced & frozen, with yorkies, roast pots & parsnips, cauliflower cheese & sprouts from the garden. I need to make some more dolls bedding, I made DGD2 a cot for her doll from a wicker basket for Christmas & DGD1 asked if she could have some bedding for her dolly too. So that will be my job today.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Up and at ,em early today, WM on, washing folded and either put away or awaiting ironing.

Roast leg of lamb today, double discounted, as was down to half price, then halved again at the end of the day, will make leftovers onto a tagine as its huge.

Its dull and grey here, so will get woodburner on in a bit, then I do not intend to venture out at all.

Oldest cat keeps waking me up by literally walking across my face, I am pretty sure she,s got dementia, she walks around the house yodellling to herself most of the time. She forgets when she,s eaten. Will have to take her to the vet, see if they can help her - she is 17 bless.

Have a fab sunday all x

    Good Morning All

Been MIA as New Years day we went on our first holiday longer than a weekend for 5 years. It was wonderful, really relaxed and was lovely lying in the sun. Arrived back in the UK Tuesday and just been trying to get back to normal ever since.

Nearly all the holiday washing is done, have been ironing as I go so only 1 pile to do today :j House is reasonably tidy but need to clean the animals out this morning before I take DS football - so need to get my thermals out for that!

Living out of the store cupboard and freezers this month as its very very tight. We stopped working for one client and started with another - this will reduce stress big time but the money is not coming in yet.

Anyway the freezers are very full and have been meaning to run them done for sometime. Today we have roast pork with all the trimmings.

Haven't been able to catch up with the thread :( so (((hugs))) to anyone who needs one and get well wishes to those under the weather.x
  • Good morning all,
Chilly here today, a mild frost.
Wm is on. Need to get some ironing done at some stage.
Hubby has made a start on decorating our bedroom. It completely turns the house upside down. We would really like to gut it and start again, plastered etc but just can't afford it at the moment. So it is just having a coat of paint and a pair of new curtains, i had those given to me.
Roast pork with potatoes and veg for dinner. We still have some leeks in over the allotment so i will pop over there later and dig some up for dinner and some for soup.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Good Morning x

I agree with you Donny about the doggy chasing away depression and anxiety. I know I would be in a terrible state without mine:j Molly just makes me smile when I look at her and she "chats" away with her "woo" sounds.

Well gradually sorting things out here. Im trying to get more organised with my quilting stuff and books. I need to de-clutter my side of the bedroom as I have a mini library my side of the bed. I am lurking on the hoarders thread :rotfl:

OS - might try and do some baking today. Reading about Ruby's Kitchen Aid has prompted me to unpack mine which was a present two years ago:eek: I know....I know.... reason being I used my handheld until it broke but now have no excuses. TBH I am a bit frightened of it but Kid'sDad is going to help me fathom it out.

Hugs for a good, if cold day. Keep warm (Im snuggled in my bed with Molly as I type this)
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Morning all

Sun is shining here but it's chilly!

I had planned on spring cleaning the house in fits and starts today, I'm in the mood to sort stuff out, and have a few canvases I want to put on the walls. But will have to see how I feel. I finished the last of the steroids last night so hopefully I'm on the mend :). My friend is coming over tonight, she will be staying over as she is working locally tomorrow (she works with me). It will be nice to catch up as I've not seen her since before NY, but I've warned her that I won't be up for much more than DVD and food. I'll either do stirfry or stuffed peppers for our dinner.

OS wise - WM is on, plan is to hoover throughout, clean bathroom and toilet, put away laundry, put up canvases, and sort kitchen cupboards. I may sort through clothes too but that might be another day's job :rotfl:.

    Have a good day all
