Good time of year for passport renewals

Newport Passport Office received the application on Monday 7th January (according to Track and Trace online).
New passport arrived just 4 days later, on Friday 11th January.
This was an independent application, NOT using the Check and Send service from the Post Office.

Excellent advice, lets bookmark this thread ready for all the people who moan when they try to renew them in July when at a rough guess it might take a wee bit longer. As validity can be carried forward (within limits) there's no excuse for waiting.0 -

Yes, as long as you're back before it expires, but you can renew now and carry forward the months remaining on your passport, up to 9 months I think it is.0 -
I did my daughter's in November, and it took about 3 days too. Was quite surprised. Just stuck it in the post, no check + send nonsense either.0

I don't think check and send does anything to speed things up - possibly even the reverse if it's late in the day and gets held up overnight before being despatched. It does significantly (but not entirely) reduce the risk of the application being rejected on errors on the form, etc0

Will remember this in another couple of years. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

Hello I'm getting ready to renew my passport so checked online to find out the procedure.
I can see you can fill in a form online, send it to the Passport office, have them print it out and send it back to you for photos, signatures etc.
Am I missing something because this seems like making work for the sake of it - why can't I fill it in, print it, add photos etc and then simply send it to the Passport office?
Or can I still get a paper form from the Post Office that I can complete?
Thanks0 -

Yes you can get a passport form from the post office and do it the normal way.
We got the normal application from the post office for changing my sons to an adult passport in December. Took about a week to come back."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye" - Miss Piggy0 -
Thanks Gremlin That'll do me then - I'll pick up a form from my main post office tomorrow, snow willing.
Been in two small post offices but both had long queues and no passport forms available for just picking up so I was wondering if the online way was the only way.0
