Sounds like you've been scammed by an online company who are nothing to do with the IPS.

Panic over - the passport arrived this morning after only 5 days. Excellent turn around - definitely a good time to apply

January is actually the busiest time for passports - 70% extra.

So credit to the IPS for doing them so quickly.

Ill be sending my renewel off tomorrow so will update as soon as its back. Fingers crossed its as quick as some the replies have said here!

This is still a fairly quiet time of year. Though it will start getting busy for Easter

Another tip is to try to time the renewal so it's processed just before the date in the month your passport expires. Since it seems new passports are always valid for an exact number of months, ie the expiry date is always the same date as the issue date, and unused months in the old passport are rounded up. Eg if your old passport expires on 5 Sept 2013, and the renewal is processed on 1 Mar 2013, it'll be valid till 1 Oct 2023 (or 1 Oct 2018 for a child). That's not strictly true, OH has just applied for his renewal, old passport expired 9 July this year and new passport was issued on 19 Feb and expires 19 July 2023

Just to add, passport applied for in normal way (no check and send) and back in a week.

sent of missus and kids applications in 25th feb. Had letter come back last week had put 2012'on the cheque.. So paid over phone with card. Missus had letter come Saturday. Made appointment today for Wednesday .

had the childrebs birth certificates come back today.

they sent a certified photo back of each child so i must have read that wrong as thought they needed one certifird one normal

Err.. that's exactly what I said! You gained 10 days, ie the unexpired time was rounded up. If the passport had been issued on 8th Feb or 8th March, the passport would have been valid till 8 Aug 2023 and you'd have gained almost a month.

Ended up sending mine in the 28th Feb and just got it back today so definitely longer than the usual 3 week turn around. I have no idea what the gold up was, every time I rang I was told it kept going back and forth from the examiner.

Oh well it's here now so I'm happy
