Best Android Sat Nav App

just an update to my post #95 on Navmii/Navfree.
turned out they were updating the Euro maps and I was able to download all the mps I needed (France, Benelux, Austria, Germany, Poland) a few days later, all fitted onto space left on the 8Mb micro Sd in my smartphone.
Used it as a self contained unit (off-line) on my Euro car-camping holiday in October and it was brill for a free App.
Took in 2200 +miles and it barely missed a beat all trip.
Was particularly impressed when it managed to get me from one side of Berlin to the other right through the centre on a Saturday afternoon when they had the largest demonstration ever seen (couple of 100,000 people!) and there were street closures and diversions all over the place.
It took re-directions in real time in it's stride bar a couple of times it lost Sats amongst tall buildings but quickly recovered.
as a simple satnav it did everything I wanted and for free it's a keeper!
I was using the older Navfree version on an elderly (7yo) Samsung Galaxy Ace, latest Navmii versions use same maps but have a lot more features, also worked fine on a my Sons newer phone taken as a back up
So does Navmii now offer re-routing?
I've got a new phone with more memory so may try it again.
(I am currently using Google Maps with a download of my usual routes stored on phone, due to its traffic awareness and brilliant destination look-up).0 -
Used navmii for several years and found it great all over Europe. Recently updated to marshmallow and elected to include 32g card with internal storage. Unfortunately navmii seems to want to sit in the internal memory particularly the map upgrades. It reverts phone back to split memory and stopped most of the apps. On my Moto phone it also encodes the SD card so you cannot use a windows link to move stuff round. Had to factory reset to try to get phone working.0

To answer my own question of 2 posts ago, Navmi has now had real-time traffic re-routing for a while. It works OK.
But.. due to a special offer from Tomtom till end of this month (see HUKD - 40% off and £8 voucher) I was able to resubscribe to Tomtom Traffic for a year for £22.
You still can't beat a 5" dedicated landscape display and the quick magnetic mount of a Tomtom.0 -
I have tried a number and keep going back to OSMAND which nobody seems to have mentioned. Pay a very small one off fee to download as many maps as you like and it works offline . A very powerful app that works almost as well as a SatNav. Responds quickly to route changes with no lag.0

Osmand is excellent - The tops!
I've researched many reviews and tried numerous nav apps but IMHO Osmand beats the lot, whether in Car, Bike, Foot, Nautical, or other modes. (I only use one other, and that is for serious sailing)
Try the free version (limited map downloads).
The paid version costs less than a couple of on-street coffees/beers, so when you've tried the free one, pay for OsmAnd+.
One caveat - You'll only get the best from it if you are willing to learn how to. The "help" will get you started, and there is a lively and helpful forum to resolve any questions.-1
