Is your driving licence out of date?

  • Hi,

I've just been in communication with the DVLA, their Independent Complaints Advisory Committee & the Parliamentary Ombudsman regarding the renewal of my license as I sent it off for renewal as soon as I received it. I received it back within a week only to find the put the new validity period from when they had processed it - not from when it expires, or adding on another 10 years including the remaining time left. So I lost out on 1 month & 11 days!

After a long road of letters & emails I'm finally receiving a £20 refund & the forms are being re-done to inform drivers that they should send their licences back close to the expiry date. the GOV website is also being updated.

I felt that I had to post something for others as there may be drivers who have also been affected like I have. I did ask whether other drivers who were affected will be refunded as well, but due to the time it would take to go through the millions of applications that are processed it would not be cost-effective.

I would strongly urge anyone that finds out that they have lost out on their licence to contact the DVLA & hopefully they may receive a refund as well. I kept all my documentation which was invaluable as it proved that the form was misleading.

I hope my experience helps a few people! :)
