Laptop screen gone wrong!

Not seeing how an inverter would cause the screen to misreport itself as a 1024x768 model I have to confess.
If part of the screen was just being chopped off, but you could still move the mouse etc. into the blank area, I'd be more inclined to agree with you, but this machine is just suddenly deciding it has a different type of panel hooked up.
Would a failing inverter cause the EDID data to get corrupted?0 -
Unless you know better Lum; I'm going off my personal experience, I have already explained how this might happen. You steam in, with a better solution, go for it.0

It was a genuine question because I can't see how the inverter would cause that symptom and I'd love to know why it does.
I'm not the one who has been attacking you in this thread.
That said it has, thankfully, been a while since I last had to take a laptop apart to fix anything beyond the simple stuff like hard drives. The place I currently work prefers to just replace them and I've got better things to do than go crawling around on a dark blue carpet looking for a tiny black screw that eventually turns out to have attached itself to my clothing somehow.0
