Ok latest driver for that, from Intel not Acer, is 15.8.3.1504

If you right click it's entry in device manager, go to properties and then driver is that the driver version you have?

Looks like it hasn't been updated since 2008 so yours is probably up to date.
  • it's not actually - it's 7.14.10.1114 the driver date is 2006

does that mean that version has sort of - just given up and that's why it's happened?!

I don't know why it's failed, but getting the most up to date drivers is usually a starting point to try and fix it.

Is your copy of Vista 32bit or 64bit? To find out: Start -> right click my computer -> properties.
  • ok doke, well I've clicked on update drivers but it's taking its time - it's 32bit

Here's the most up to date drivers for that card, if Windows Update doesn't get them for you:

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=16312&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%20Vista%2032*&DownloadType=Drivers

Personally I would uninstall any existing Intel Graphics drivers (but not any other Intel drivers, such as chipset), then reboot, then install this one.

To be honest this is probably a hardware problem, but it's still worth a try.

Why would Sarah's computer suddenly fail? Then work? Then fail again?

There was no argument, contortion, slagging off, quoting, or being personal, just facts
