  • Oh dear! Right well you should do the following tests on your desktop (the one plugged in with a network cable). Assuming you are on either Windows Vista or Windows 7:

    1) Click on the Globe (start) button in the bottom left hand corner
    2) In the box that you can type in at the bottom, put cmd then press enter
    3) In the blackbox that appears type the following:

    ping -t 8.8.8.8

    Then press enter
    4) This will test a connection to a server on the internet to make sure that you have a constant connection. It should look like this http://i.imgur.com/7kgD4.png

    5) If you have any lines that say Request timed out that can help us further diagnose this problem. If you do this test, let us know if all of them start with "reply from" or if some start with Request timed out.

    6) Close the black box and reopen it again using steps 1 and 2

    7) This time we are going to type in:

    ping www.test.com

    Then press enter

This should then look similar to this:

    http://imgur.com/3jygP

Let us know if it doesn't. If you get an error that says it could not find the host, let us know also. If you are using Windows XP, replace step 1 and 2 by clicking start, going to run and typing in cmd then pressing enter. The above commands still apply. From there we can further diagnose the issue!

    ok thanks

I am using windows xp. I typed in the first ping and didn't get the http:// just continous lines saying reply from .......

I typed in the second ping and again didn't get the http just four lines saying reply from .............................. and ping statistics.

It's a link. You're supposed to click on it in order to see the image on the other end:

Might these might be worth checking too?

Incidentally, your (?) secondary DNS server (62.24.199.23) isn't responding from this end.

what security software are you using, post a hijackthis log http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe

the desktop is connected to a router with ethernet cable?

    which router is it.

what are the proxy settings in internet explorer, tools, internet options, connections, lan settings

Hi, thanks for helping but I really have no idea what a hijack log is or what you do with it. There wasn't a http? to click on. The router is a belkin.

I think the settings are auto detect proxy for this network?

    thanks again

    router?

hijackthis, run it, scan, click save log, save to a file, which will open in notepad, post the results here using copy and paste

    remove the autodetect proxy settings.

scan your system with malwarebytes http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

    your keep mentioning http, explain?

Note: not all links have that. Conversely, not all such addresses are links.
In most graphical browsers, when the cursor hovers over a link, the cursor changes into a hand with a stretched index finger and the title is displayed in a tooltip or in some other manner.
