If I'm sticking 10k down on a car, I'm unlikely to be bothered if the VED is 100 or £300.
FWIW a mid 00s 330Ci cabrio is £270 on the VED front which isn't too terrible. Plus very nice examples can be picked up for 5-7k.
Quite true but she's asked for a girlie car, happy to do nipping around town, cheap to run with low tax and four seats.
so far she's been offered a plethora of two seaters and some big manly stuff which although they might have a tax of £270 aren't exactly what was asked and are unlikely to be cheap to run in terms of parts, servicing, fuel or insurance. That's all.
Personally, I'd look at the same cars as you but they don't really fit with what the OP wants or needs by the sound of it.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Tbh, I was trying to suggest 4 seater cabrios - only covers 4k per year so fuel costs won't be outrageous. Plus look nice with the roof down (and that's what really matters
).
Once you've had a cabrio, difficult to go back to tin tops.
If you want girly, there's no point looking further than a MINI or a Fiat 500. Nothing else comes close in terms of style or fun imo.0 -
The Fiat 500 might be a bit small, but it does have four seats. There's a 500C convertible version, too.
Have a look at the Audi A3 convertible also. Of course, it wouldn't be new (more like 3 years old) but it's a very reliable car. Oh, and girly too.0 -
The reason I want a low car tax is I hardly use my car , so as I walk to work, I sometimes only nip to larger supermarkets once in a week.
By the time I pay insurance and a £250 car tax a year I may as well get a cab as I'm sure that would less than £10 a week (that the tax and insurance would equal out too?)
I'm not a 'petrol head'- but I've always had a car so don't want to be without one, although I could cope :-)

Don't forgt to add depreciation that will swamp the £10pw you spend on tax and insurance.
Also the £1pw on an MOT before repairs.
£10k will get a new 500

If you're keen on the 500, save buying a new one and get one a year old, it will have lost a fair bit of it's value and it still has that "new" feel.0
