Help me find a car:-)

Please help me :-) I need to get a new car :))

In October I had a nasty accident, not my fault, in fact I was parked up and some went into me a a great speed, my car has been written off and I've just recieved settlement cheque .

The car I lost was a Megan convertible , before that I had a mini convertible .

I would like something cheap to run, low car tax ( under £100 per year) I have 2 kids so need 4 seats but 99% of time I'm in car on my own, i do about 4000 miles or less a year! I do not want to spend over £10,000!

I hate buying cars so would really like some advice!
PS - car does not have to be convertible but I'd like something GIRLY!
Thank :-) you
:money: I will never be rich but I'm happy :rotfl:

Another thread led me to look at similar cars.

You can get a 2009 (last year made) Honda S2000 in convertible or not.
Girly or not is I guess up to interpretation.
Economical? Well you only do less than 400/yr....
Depreciation.... I saw one with about 15k miles.... (Check autotrader) with your milage depreciation will be almost non existent on a classic model for a few years.

The S2000 other than being known for being a sporty drivers car is also known as the convertible coupe with the most rear space (OK Some Merc's and BMW's). They are also Honda's.... so in the most reliable!

On the other hand.... why buy a convertible... (as a 1st car) ... perhaps many people should own one once :D but given our climate and the extra hassle ....

Car Tax.... honestly not worth bothering about IMHO given you have 10k to spend and only do 4k or less a year!

Look on it as a bonus for driving either a tiny engine or diesel.

You don't do near enough miles to make a modern diesel worthwhile
so your choice is really down to 'tiny engine' or don't worry about the fuel and tax overly.

This being the case 10k will buy a lot of older outstanding bigger cars that are not that economical in mpg but will depreciate less. (Especially given your milage)

Your definition of 'girly' is probably something you know what you mean... a lot of people class a MX5 as girly and Fiat Barchetta even more so.... however I as a bloke would quite like either if I had the luxury of a 2nd car!

Its your choice.... 10k will get you a new 1.2 something.... or at the other end a low milage Merc (Extreme example)

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201211264384131/sort/default/usedcars/price-from/7000/price-to/10000/make/mercedes-benz/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/radius/1500/postcode/bb79da/page/1?logcode=p

With 3k to cover any repairs / running costs.....

    In-between is quite a lot!

Why talk about an S2000 when the OP clearly stated she needs 4 seats?

but 99% of time I'm in car on my own .....

    Just an example.....
OP doesn't give ages of kids.... or what car potential other half has.

If it's really 99% 'on her own' then what percent of the other 1% requires both kids together?

but mainly just to illustrate what is available for less than 10k and potentially 'nicer' than the previous Megane.

She said needs 4 seats not it would be ideal. Why not just go the full hog and suggest she buys a bike?

I would assume with two kids the ability to take them out together is a given.

    Girly.

Just buy a pink car ;)

As above seems silly to be worying about tax when just buying cheaper would leave you money in the bank to pay the tax.

Insurance is probably going to be more significant.

WHat is your total budget cash now and money per year.

    Do you want something sporty

How often and what type of trips do you need more than 2 seats, alternatives, taxi, hire.

wow! only 4000 miles a year . I'd buy a second hand low mileage fiat 500 in pink-girly , 2kids in back, low tax, low insurance low depreciation!

The best thing car wise that happened to us was that just as my DD started driving lessons my Dad's bridge partner gave up driving and we got a polo with hardly any miles on it. It is v . roomy I often use it to drive children and friends about and very economical and so easy in car parks etc , plus for a new driver the insurance was very reasonable. I am hooked on it now .

In terms of money saving it is v low cost motoring.

I was thinking the same. Great post if the OP wanted a two seater sports car.

Will have a think the £100 tax bracket is a bit of a interesting element though and should narrow the search down.

how old are the kids though? Do you need to be able to put them in car seats in the back for example?
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Nice car, but for 4,000 miles a year, I would avoid a diesel, due to DPF problems.

Nothing says cheap and girly like an MX5. That's a fact, proven by scientists in a lab.
