Hi All,
1st of all please feel free to move me!;)
The problem is: I brought a toy from my local toys r us, wont mention what it is (a very well know tv character by a very well known brand).
This toy had from birth on tag on it brought it for my 8 month little girl, anyway she had been playing with toy for appox 1hour and i noticed she had bits in her mouth!! they had come off the bottom of the toys foot!
I took toy away from her and contacted company spoke to really unhelpfull lady that tried to fob me off by saying 'it is not a teething toy but a cuddly toy'.
She would replace the toy but that was it, I think this a unexceptable explanation surely if you buy a toy from birth you expect to be able to give it to a child of any age

She also told me that by my dd putting it in her mouth and getting it wet that had caused these 'pads' to come off on the foot, so then surely the label would say 'do not get wet'. 'or this is not a toy' (if it has been designed to be a cuddly toy sat on a shelf??)

I am not looking for a major fight! just want to make sure that the toys are safe for other little ones. It wasnt expensive only £4.99 but i feel that the company have just dismissed it.
Opinions needed what would you do???;)

Hi,
If it says suitable from birth it should be exactly that, what baby isn't going to shove it in their mouth. Everything goes in their mouth!
Think they should change the age to 3 plus myself. it could be so easy for them to choke.
I would probably write a letter, they seem to go down better than talking on the phone for some reason,
Good luck0 -
Phone the company, ask for a response AND a refund and if they are not prepared to give you an answer, then ask them would they prefer to explain it to the newspapers instead. This is rubbish!0

I think the company should have taken your problem much more seriously. Any toy suitable from birth is bound to be put in a baby's mouth - that's what babies do!
You were lucky that you where nearby and could take the toy away from your little one - another baby might not be so lucky and could choke. I would be tempted to contact Trading Standards0 -
Go with what Moodykerry said and write a letter also I would contact trading standards at your local council0

hi
agree with you and both the above posters. If it says from birth then it should live up to that claim! How can you not expect a baby to put things it its mouth?
I would ring up customer services and ask for the supervisor, surely they must understand your concern for your little one and it happening to others.
Good luck!

I got a letter from boots in Feb saying that a toy that i had got at xmas, using my advantage card, was being recalled due to the fact the bobble nose might fall off if pulled hard. They issued a replacement toy up to the same value or a full refund.
If they have done a product recall over a "might happen" then the company should be taking this seriously. I would get in touch with someone higher up the company and also trading standards and possibly toys r us as well as they might just pull the items from the shelves if they knew!
Good luck! xxDeliver us from email....0 -
I would definately contact Trading Standards ASAP,your little one was being supervised, but there might be a child somewhere who is being put to bed with this cuddly toy, and the parents will be completely oblivious to the possible dangers. If it is as you say a well known character then there are probably thousands of these around the country.0

Hi Taggiesgirl,
I used to work for a public analysts who would regularly get toys in for testing from our local trading standards departments. Phone your local council, explain you would like to speak to Trading Standards and explain that the toy is defective. They should remove the toy from you for testing but they will probably also but at least another 3 of the items themselves and send them for quality testing. They will then contact the manufacturer and take matters further if the item is defective.
Let us know how you get on.

I rung mothercare with a similar complaint. My 6 month old baby had cute babygrows with stuck on characters which came off and i found him sucking on(choking hazzard). I rung and complained and sent them back. They were taken off of shelves to my knowledge and i was given lots vouchers over what i had paid.
This is how toy r us should respond. I would write an email to head office and say that it is a choking hazzard which it is and this is waht kids do of that age with these toys as it says suitable for that age. Say if you don't get a response you will take it much further as this is a choking hazzard(as it could be serious). I really would kick up a fuss as things like this are not acceptable as it could kill a baby and then its too late.
So get writing. You are in the right and they should take this seriously!0
