The OP probably has a slightly older modem , most likely the VMNG300 which should work quite happily at 100mb.

The only advantages the Superhub would have is extra upstream/downstream channels if I remember correctly.

The superhub has lots of problems; not least of which is that it's internal RAM is seriously insufficient even just to run a 100M connection with wireless and DHCP switched off. Turn them on and it all goes downhill FAST!
Rumour is (and this coming from the VM tech who recently visited me) that they expect to have new routers by around February. They hope this will fix speed issues, as well as their problems with online video constantly buffering.

    Naf, that sounds quite likely.

IIRC the Asus RT-N66U has something like 256mb of ram and wipes the floor in tests (I read a review where they were saying it basically maxed out their testing gear for connections), I suspect the superhub has a lot less ram, and most likely a much weaker CPU (the N66 has something like a 600mhz cpu).

I've heard that the Superhub v2 is in testing, but I suspect it will take several months for that to finish, and for them to roll it out (let alone replace existing superhubs).

I find it funny to hear loads of people having issues with the Superhub, so I guess I must be the lucky one. Since I've had it installed I've not had any problems with it. Yes....the wireless side is pretty dire but the recent firmware upgrade seems to improved things slightly and I did have my old DIR 615 spare to set up as a wireless repeater running DD-WRT.

I thought the Superhub did come with a booklet covering most of the main settings?
When I installed my brother in laws one, I remember the booklet telling me how to change various settings, and how to turn it into modem only mode.
Whilst the manual wasn't as good as the one for some of the other routers I've installed, it was easy to follow (and covered most common settings) and much better than some ;)

I have fond memories of when you always got a good paper manual with things like routers, these days most seem to have an A4-3 sheet (folded down), or a small 10-15 page manual at most, with the rest on CD/DVD.
It does come with a fold out sheet step by step guide to setting up and little booklet which has very basic instructions on things like adding wireless devices but I want more detail. You mentioned modem only mode - there was none of that in the printed literature. It could only be found on VM's online help pages. There was also nothing about the Superhub's browser based config pages. This is what I was really interested in as I wanted to know what it's router function was capable of compared to my belkin router. The online help about this as well as the info contained within the configuration pages pales badly compared to the manuals of other routers. In the end I just elected to use the modem only mode and stick with my own router.

I didn't even get a guide with mine. I had to have a engineer come out to swap mine over. He was a nice enough bloke but apart from telling me the SSID and router pass-phrase that was it. He saw I had a Virgin DIR 615 router but never offered to ask if I still wanted to use it. I know it defeats the object as the superhub is a modem/router but I knew reading the forums that the wireless signal wasn't great.
