I am not up to scratch on the housing benefit thing at all but I cannot wait to see the mess which results from the child benefit changes. A lot of these policies are thought through by privileged public schoolboys you see:Dnever stop doing your best because someone doesn't give you credit0

One might say that this is fair enough but a slight little thing happened outside my control and they refused to pay me. I did not need the money anyway and never worked for them again even though they kept ringing me up offering me work and asking me to do last minute favours:eek::eek:
Thanks for the warning patty I'll keep an extra close eye on them!
How many assignments did you used to get from them? I seem to miss out on most2 years since my OH gave up smoking - total saving approx £5475!!!! :T0 -
This article says it applies to those in social housing only, i.e. those in privately rented houses will be unaffected

FALSE. It's not just council properties, it is aimed at ANYONE who receives HOUSING BENEFIT. So you can live in a council house or a private rented property. If you have bedrooms that are not used, you will pay. Simple.
It's unfair that this lady friend of yours is having to pay extra. If I were her, I would complain to the local council. Why she was allocated a 3 bedroomed property is crazy. Kids of the same sex under 18 are expected to share a bedroom (this is a rule set by the government which all councils should follow), so this lady should only ever have had a 2 bedroomed property: 1 room for her and partner/husband and 1 room for the 2 girls.
The reason many are given a 3 bedroom instead of a 2 is down to what they write in their initial application form. I know a lot of people put down various reason why partners can't sleep in the same bedroom or put another adult on the form who 'moves out' just after they move into the property.
Over here a lot of people, mostly pensioners living in 3 bed properties, are being told to put in a transfer form and told which areas are in high demand to put on the form because if they do this they don't have to pay the extra, they can claim that it's the housing executive/association's fault for not rehousing them in a suitable property. This advice was given by a housing executive officer.
My younger cousin thought that by putting down that her and her DH can't sleep in the same room she'd be given a 3 bed but when I read out bits from my forms she realised she wouldn't, she's not happy she wants her boys to have their own room and doesn't understand why they have to adults before they will be allowed this.
I also agree that the problem arose because of sell offs and no new stock.
My great aunt waited almost 10 years to get a bungalow and gave them hell over the fact that she had a 3 bed house when a family could have had it, her housing officer told her this was their problem as they didn't account for the ageing population so sold off too many 1 bed properties and never replaced them.
It's all these bright ideas from people out of touch with the normal everyday people in the country that causes the problems, makes me :mad:SPC #329 £471/£500 banked
