I finally got my ebay problems sorted. I sold a new Xbox game for £25 + £3 post and sent it before Xmas. The buyer didn’t receive it so I offered to send them the proof of postage. When you claim from Royal Mail for lost parcels you can only claim the cost to yourself and not how much you sold it for. The buyer ignored my message offering to send proof and opened a case with ebay at which point they put £28 from my Paypal account on hold. I tried to communicate with the buyer but they ignored me and then I realised they were no longer a registered user. Their feedback was loads of negs as they’d been selling fake perfume, so I assumed that to be the reason they’d been banned.
Because my money was still on hold I escalated the case to ebay and pointed out that the buyer was no longer registered and had already proved themselves untrustworthy, but ebay found in favour of the buyer and sent them the refund! They told me they always find in favour of the buyer if there is no tracking number. You don’t get a tracking number with ordinary post, only recorded, registered or using a courier, Parcelforce etc.
I was really upset as I didn’t know this before but it seems that any buyer can just claim to have not received their parcel and they can get a refund if it was sent ordinary first or second class post. Ebay have never made this clear to sellers. The other problem is with Royal Mail as it didn’t used to be so difficult to claim from them but now it seems you need proof of the items cost to you.
I sent a complaint to all the directors as I could not find what I needed to do to appeal the case. I told them that my buyer being a fraudster had not even been taken into consideration or the fact that it had been mentioned in their feedback about other parcels not received. Result – I got my £28 back and £10 compensation. This is good for me but I won’t be using ebay so much now as everything needs to be recorded so that buyers cannot lie. With the cost of this as well as high postage rates in the first place and extortionate ebay and Paypal fees, its much harder to make a profit as a seller than it was a few years ago.0
