A couple of years ago our dog Elvis (don't ask!) had an ear infection, saw nice vet and he gave drops. Then went back for check up expecting the all clear, other vet said he had grass seed down ear and needed operation to remove including general anesthetic, blood test etc and would cost about £450!!!! I said no thank you we will just continue with the drops...not had a problem since and needless to say haven't been back to that vets since! I think some vets must be on a bonus scheme at their practice and only seem interested in charging as much as possible especially when they know you are insured!

    FREE SCREENING OF HITCHCOCK

Will need to buy the Mail on Sunday tomorrow as the cinema asked for this last time. Be quick as this will probably close quickly.

Can I just go back a few days please. People were saying what to do with those £2 off huggies vouchers, and the Adsa baby club thingy. If anyone could put it in thick northeastern speak please, I would be a happy bunny.

Vets are something I've never shopped about with and I've used the same one for 11 years and if he hadnt have been so horrible about my baby I would have stayed with them. But it just goes to show its worth checking prices;)

Purdy had a lump removed from her foot a couple of years ago. I had a quote from my vet for £400 plus follow up visits to remove the stitches etc.
A friend recommended her vet and they did the whole thing for £120!!
I asked why there was such a difference in the price and they said that some vets just see it as a license to charge what they like as they know some people will pay whatever the cost.

Another thing these new vets told me is that they do not regard it necessary to vaccinate dogs every year once they reach a certain age. They said that trials have shown that a lot of the vaccinations last for 8 - 10 years and as long as they've had all their injections as puppies and for the first few years, there is no need to bother when they are old as they will already be immune.
They also said that trials in the USA have shown that dogs have grown cancerous tumours in the spots where they have been repeatedly vaccinated.

A lot of vets will probably disagree with this, but again, it's easy money for them!!

Definitely shop around. These new vets of mine are busy all the time as people travel miles to them :)
My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.
