If it was sent Special Delivery they would definitely have given you a tracking number, even if it was Special Delivery paid for by Argos. It sounds like it has just gone by standard 1st or 2nd class post. The only service that is guaranteed next day is Special Delivery so not having a tracking number doesn't make sense if your hubby thought that it was guaranteed next day. Good luck and fingers crossed.

Blue and silver envelope with Royal Mail on it and Next day sounds like a pre-paid special delivery envelope. But would that not be expensive to send out with every order just in case it was to be returned? Or perhaps because of the value of the ring they sent it?

    Just thinking out loud here.

If it was a Special delivery envelope could the PO office have made a mistake and not given a tracking number? Twice our local PO have given my OH a receipt and not a certificate of posting as requested.

Thank you everyone - we have one mystery solved thank heavens.

Royal Mail shows it has been DELIVERED. Woohoo!!!

My husband has gone onto RM with the Bulk Barcode ID which has brought up the tracking and delivery info.

It shows it was delivered on the 31st December with a signed for signature.

Still totally confused as to how we sent it though? But I am so relieved it has been signed for and received.

My husband is giving Argos the benefit of the doubt saying they're just looking for it... I think they know they've signed for it and lost the ring and that was the "we have no proof what you posted" comment....

Not sure what happens next? Poppy - Argos have just said they're looking into it.
    I love surprises!

Ah OK with the knowledge that that is probably a Special Delivery envelope and the fact that the barcode does have tracking details this is more reassuring. Good that they have received it.

Oh and they don't pay for the envelope. Royal Mail charge them when the envelope is used, not for simply issuing it.

Thanks, I did wonder if that might be the case.

    This whole thread confuses me.

Argos told the OP how to return it. The OP did this, Argos disputed the method (that they told the OP to use), and people are talking about Royal Mail?

I'm glad it seems to be sorted, but had it not been, the problem was with Argos, not the OP
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Sorry, to explain, basically the ring is lost. Argos rang up this evening to get postage details so I thought it most likely it got lost in the post.

We have just found out we have proof that it was delivered to their supplier. So it is lost in their factory/office/systems or whatever.

Argos are possibly disputing that we posted off a ring - they did hint that we could just have posted off the envelope... But so far they haven't even said they've received an envelope even!

Unfortunately it's not resolved yet... Ring delivered to them on 31st December and no refund yet because they can't find it.
