It's more likely HMV are just closing a few stores in a bid to cut costs. It was well reported last year and even in 2010 that they were in trouble, but I think they found a buyer and put out reports saying they were consolidating stores to prevent losses. I think it would be all over the news and the Newspapers would be having a field day if they were, HMV is such a well known brand, Jessops is far less well known and its administration was very widely reported on this week.
  • like most hmv sales it will be rubbish , id say 99% of the items are available cheaper elsewhere

Agreed! I was given an HMV giftcard for Xmas and someone at work said to spend it soon as he'd heard rumours about possible administration. I waited out until the sale and got two DVDs but it would have been possible to find them both cheaper online.

Also, in store there were four copes of one of the DVDs I got, Princess and the Frog, and each copy had different prices on it ranging from £9-£22. I asked them to check on the system and they said it was £22 but when I took the one with the £9 sticker to the till it scanned as £9. And it's not like it was the wrong sticker because it had a barcode, £9 and the words 'Princess and the Frog' printed onto it! Bonkers.

After paying I was given a £5 off £35 voucher which I binned - it's pointless because you can still find it cheaper online!

A spokesperson has said that it isn't a closing down sale:

However, I'd still use your gift card this weekend. Like Laura Kuenssberg from ITV has said, even if it is just a sale at the moment, it's not looking good...

It's a crying shame though isn't it. As an earlier poster pointed out, what will be left of our high streets soon? You can honestly see it getting to the point of people nipping out to Poundland and then grabbing a Greggs. Everything else done online. And sooner or later people will realise you can live without pound shop tat and it's not worth going out just for a Greggs so bye bye high street.

I remember happy days spent browsing my local Our Price store. How times change.
  • Where I live HMV closed down in the town center shopping arcade and then a few months later opened up in another shopping centre about half a mile away.

We all thought they'd gone from the town completely, there was no indication that they were relocating, just 'closing down'.
